Biking in Ferndale's Quiet Streets
Neighborhood: Ferndale

While Ferndale is known as fashionable, culinary, artistic, upscale, and trendy, there is a another side to the city. I'm referring specifically to the neighborhoods within walking distance to the vibrant downtown. They are are quiet, relaxing, and fairly deserted.

Many evenings you will find a lot of bikers riding the streets as they enjoy a peaceful change from the heavily-trafficked Woodward and Nine Mile Area. The neighborhoods are also very sparsely lit, and while I realize that this could be considered a safety issue, it does provide for a kind of spooky charm.

I enjoy riding through the dimly lit streets, which are mostly empty aside from other bikers and people out for an evening stroll. My favorite spot is the area near Burdette street between Cambourne and Sylvan. Here you'll find a lot of houses and businesses that provide a backdrop conducive to reflection and unwinding. If you haven't biked around here, give it a try.
