Bikini Waxing and Alternatives to Waxing

D. Ross
First off, if you are one of those kinds of people who cannot bear the thought of having a total stranger waxing your personal areas, then the alternatives are definitely for you. As for the select few who would not mind bearing it all for total strangers I have listed different types of waxing styles that may be of interest to you.

Bikini Waxing

The types of styles vary depending on the salon you decide to go to. So make sure you ask to clarify your choice. According to Wikipedia.com there are three main types, American, French, and Brazilian and of course a couple of styles that branched off of the main types. The American waxing consists of removing the hairs that show at the top of the bikini area when wearing a bathing suit and the hairs around the sides (a.k.a. basic wax). The French waxing removes just about everything, leaving a "landing strip" the width of about two to three fingers (other names associated with the French was are the Playboy and G-wax). The Brazilian consists of waxing everything from the line, to the crack, front, labia. All that is left behind is a very thin strip. The complete removal of all hair in the bikini area is commonly known as the sphinx, Hollywood, or the full Brazilian. From what I have read, waxing can be very painful and is recommended from some to take some sort of minor pain killer (i.e. ibuprofen).

Alternatives

The alternatives to waxing, I'm sure you all know; are shaving or using hair removal cremes such as Veet or Nair. With shaving it is recommend that you shave with the grain. What I have found to work, by asking around, is using rubbing alcahol afterwards. You can also use lotion along side of the rubbing alcahol. You should probably use lotion that does not contain a fragrance because that can cause irritation! If you decide to Nair, make sure it's the kind of Nair made for the bikini area only. Regular Nair can burn and leave the bikini area irriated for days. The best advice can come from your doctor, so do not be afraid to ask. Even ask your friends because they just may have a secret way that works for them that may even work for you.
