Bill Clinton and Barack Obama in Public Events at University of Denver January 30

Clinton and Obama Campaigns Converge on Colorado for Morning and Evening Events at DU

On Wednesday, January 30, the University of Denver will host two major players in the 2008 Presidential Election. Barack Obama will host a "Community Event" in the morning, and former President Bill Clinton will host a "Solutions for America" rally in the evening.

As "Super Tuesday" approaches, campaigns are bringing their messages to a wider number of states in an effort to establish a clear lead after the Tuesday primary and caucus voting. Denver is the location of the 2008 Democratic Convention, a state which has solidified Democratic leadership in its state house which formerly had a Republican governor, and has one Democratic Senator and a Republican Senator whose seat will be open for the next election as he honors his term limits pledge. This Wednesday, leading Democrats will make their pitch not only for Presidential candidates, but for the future of the Democratic party in the state of Colorado.

Obama's presence in Colorado has been increasing, as additional campaign offices have been opened around the state. Supporters are preparing for the Tuesday caucus events, and Hillary Clinton's supporters are also focusing on helping their candidate win Colorado.

To counter the effects of their prolonged public visibility, the Clinton campaign has launched "Rapid Responders" in the Super Tuesday States to "respond to inaccurate or misleading attacks directed at Senator and President Clinton," according to a Clinton news release. In Colorado, the Rapid Responders are listed as Rep. Diana DeGette, Congresswoman, and Wellington Webb, Former Denver Mayor. Supporters have been urged to report "misleading or inaccurate statements" by opponents to the campaign.

Barack Obama has recently received endorsements from Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy and his niece Caroline Kennedy, daughter of the late President John F. Kennedy, as Massachusetts joins the February 5th vote this year. The Obama website cites campaign spokesman John Freed, quoted in the Rocky Mountain News on Colorado and the Obama campaign: "The senator is coming here because Colorado is an important state that is very receptive to his message of change."

On Monday, Hillary Clinton was holding events similar to Colorado's in Massachusetts and Connecticut, while Barack Obama will be in Kansas on Tuesday, heading for Colorado on Wednesday.

Both events will take place on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the University of Denver, which is accessible via the University of Denver light rail stop or the #79 and #24 buses which stop at the same station, or the #21 bus which passes just south on Evans. The announcements note that there is no free parking at the University of Denver.

Obama's event is at 830AM at DU's Magness Arena, 2201 E. Asbury St., and Clinton's at 900PM, at the Ritchie Center, 2240 East Buchtel Blvd. Both events are free and open to the public, with RSVPs encouraged. Obama's event notes no bags for security reasons, and no signs or banners. Similar security measures are likely for Clinton's event as well.
