Former United States President, Bill Clinton, was hospitalized on Thursday February 11, 2010 after having serious chest pains. On Tuesday, Clinton had called his Cardiologist with complaints of chest pains and just not feeling well overall. An appointment was originally scheduled for the next day, but that appointment was canceled because of the weather conditions. He was then scheduled to meet with his cardiologist on Thursday to address his chest pains.

Back in 2004, Clinton had a quadruple bypass surgery in order to prevent serious heart attacks in the future. Ever since that surgery, his cardiologist has been keeping an eye on him through routinely scheduled appointments to check on his condition. When his cardiologist heard that he was having chest pains again and that Clinton wasn't feeling well, he decided that the best course of action was a procedure which included clearing clogs out of one of his coronary arteries and then inserting two stents into this artery.

A stent is a very small, simple device. They are basically mesh scaffolds which are put in place through a vein after the artery has had the clogs removed. These devices will then hold open the artery allowing the blood to flow through freely and thus drastically reducing the risks of serious heart problems in the near future.

Thursday, Clinton had the procedure done. Afterwards he was in a good spirits and was expected to recover well and be back on his feet in no time. Recently, Clinton had been working hard on humanitarian efforts in Haiti after their disaster. It is expected that Clinton will be able to get back to work on helping the people of Haiti soon.
