Bill Clinton Still Fuming Over Hillary's Defeat

Former President Tells Friends Obama Will Have to Beg for His Support

Charles Willoughby
Friends who know the former president well relate that he is still fuming over his wife unexpected loss to a relatively unknown senator from Illinois. While senator Clinton has dropped all appearances of despair and anger over the bitter loss close friends say that husband Bill has no and may not get over the 'stolen nomination'.

There is no doubt that the Clintons riding on a wave of their own popularity and benefiting from the disastrous poll numbers for President Bush expected that the Democratic nomination was theirs (hers) for the asking. With President Bush's spiraling approval by the American people memories of the Clinton administration were elevated to an undeserved level as many people longed for the good old days when the economy was strong, the U.S. was popular around the world and there was no war and no weekly losses of American lives.

Hillary was to be the beneficiary of this nostalgia.

Then something en route to the inevitable nomination (and a second Camelot ) happened. The wheels fell off.

The Clinton campaign after riding a wave of early primary victories made a huge blunder by ignoring the caucus states. Obama did not and as a result he began a streak of victories which sent the Clinton machine reeling. It was not until New Hampshire before they could temporarily turn the tide. Still the Obama momentum was too great for even wins in Pennsylvania and Ohio to stop.

As the tide turned the Clinton campaign seemed to have panicked. Bill Clinton's automatic reaction was to go on the offensive and when he personally launched attacks on senator Obama they were often interpreted to "mean spirited' and even 'racist'. The more the former president stumbled the more aggressive and offensive he became. His popularity faded at a rate nearly matching that of President Bush.

The former President once considered Hillary's campaign ace in the hole became her worst nightmare. His rhetoric and his lambasting of senator Obama was often considered below the line of acceptability (this may have been an unfair charge) and was especially offensive to the Afro-American community and voters who in the past had always been a dependable part of the Clinton constituency. The former president received much harsh and unaccustomed criticism the media and he reacted badly. red faced and finger pointing he attacked the press, Network coverage and reporters face to face. He had, many said loss control. There were even rumors that his major heart surgery had scared and changed his personality.

The result we all know. Hillary lost, and is now speaking up for Obama.

Friends of the Clintons say do not hold you breath for Bill Clinton to join the Obama campaign team. He has told many of them that Obama would have to personally beg for his whole hearted support.

These friends say that Bill Clinton still remains very, very bitter at the way his reputation was tarnished when remarks he made during the campaign were labeled as racist. He is very angry with the way he was portrayed during the campaign and plans the Obama organization for it. He is often quoted as saying he would make no effort to reach out to Obama that the Illinois senator would have to come to him.

An article in the London Telegraph quotes a Clinton campaign aide as saying the former president actually put it much more crudely saying "Obama will have to kiss my a$$ if he wants my support". The article went on to say that all his friends thought that he would get over it, but that he remains "mad as hell' and now they are not so sure.

People close to Bill Clinton have heard him remark that he does not believe Obama can win the general election.

Others have speculated that the Clintons believe that an Obama defeat in November would open the door for senator Clinton in 2012.

seems that in politics and families there is always always fighting.......

Poor Bill doesn't get to be First Lady! I think the Clintons are both just power-hungry and I don't care to see them in the White House again, although the alternative choices don't leave much to be desired, either.
