Bill Cosby Got Laughs without Using Four-Letter Words at the Cheyenne Civic Center
Several generations of folks made up the sell out crowd, including many teenagers as well as many seniors, the latter who are contemporaries of the 73 year old comedian. Many of the adults were dressed up to see this show in the intimate venue, where ticket prices ranged from $59 to $69. Bill Cosby came out to a standing ovation. He was dressed in a hooded Temple University sweatshirt, jogging pants, white socks and sandals - garb that reminds one of the days when he played Dr. Huxtable (when off duty) on The Cosby Show. Throughout his approximately 100 minute show, he exhibited a strong presence on stage (though he was seated next to a table with water and tissue). He asked the audience questions often, sometimes jokingly yelling out to let him provide the answers. One person sitting right in the front row had a coughing spell, to which Cosby offered one of his two bottles of water to the audience member, which got a lot of laughs as a result.
The comedian opened by discussing what he eats for breakfast, and then about what television was like when it first came out. He covered other subjects about why younger people like to incorrectly use the word "sucks", about what happened when he bought a piƱata for his granddaughter's birthday party. He discussed the raising and disciplining of kids, often reminiscing about how things used to be. Bill Cosby spent a lot of time talking about how the Book of Genesis apparently has some missing pages in light of the story of Adam and Eve, which was a great anchor for his jokes about how women basically run things in marriage. He closed his monologue at the Cheyenne Civic Center with some words of wisdom for men about to get married.
The incredible thing about watching this comedian get laughs is that not once during his monologue did he utter one four-letter word, which proves that gifted artists can be funny without spewing out a lot of offensive language, even as he discussed subjects like erectile dysfunction in a tasteful manner. Young people attending laughed just as hard as the older folks over the observations of Bill Cosby, who received another standing ovation at the conclusion of the show.

I've been an usher for the Cheyenne Civic Center since the 2004-05 season, but what I write are my own impressions.

Post a CommentBill Cosby is one of the best story tellers that exist today. Clean and humorous stories, so many comics feel the need to enhance their stories with useless foul language. Glad you enjoyed.
I bet he did. The guy is a total one man riot. I only wish that I could have seen him perform.
Cosby is surely still a Beautiful Jewel is this world. Wish I could have been there.
To me, Bill Cosby is a genius - and like you said, "without four-letter words!" - He is the iconic comedian. Well done, Roy. cheers :)
