Bill Gates is Anti-Hunting

captdallas2
Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft Corporation is joining the anti-hunting movement by donating $100,000 to Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). While this may seem to many to be an environmentally friendly act, is it really?

Outdoor sportsmen groups like Ducks Unlimited and Quail Unlimited invest huge amounts of money and time in protecting wildlife habitat. Hunting leases purchased by thousands of hunting clubs contribute billions of dollars to private forestry and farming enterprise helping to maintain habitat. Tax revenues from hunting licenses and the various hunting related products generate billions of dollars often used to expand wildlife management areas.

The efforts of the various hunting groups have helped protect and expand millions of acres of forest and wetland around the world. Hunting groups and environmentalist share a common goal, if for different reasons.

The lofty goals of many environmental groups are going awry by their not recognizing the benefits of unlikely allies. For example: Anti-logging groups by pressing legislation to stop forestry management in areas with untenable legislation has forced owners of forest lands to sell acreage to developers. Hunting groups on the other hand help finance timberland owners and lobby instead for more responsible forestry management practices.

Hunting organizations are doing, using their own financial resources, what many environmental groups are trying to do using legislation, rent-a-huggers and government financing. Anti-hunting groups like HSUS feel they are helping wildlife, but loss of natural habitat is the least humane treatment of wildlife.

Expanding forestlands and wetlands serves more that just to help protect wildlife. Forests watersheds and wetlands are vital for water conservation, storm water runoff control and reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide. Game migration corridors, encouraged by both environmentalists and hunters would reduce wildlife vehicle injuries and deaths. Endangered apex predators like the Florida panther need these corridors to ensure survival. Wildlife corridors would add millions of acres of wildlife habitat in a joint partnership of private, state and federal landowners. Which group would be most likely to continually fund such an undertaking?

The intentions of HSUS are noble, but the humane treatment of wildlife involves habitat restoration, which is effectively being financed by their targeted group.

To all of the idiots that think that hunting is so bad: JUST HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU THINK THAT YOUR FAMILY TREE MADE IT THIS FAR??? Without hunting you would not exist. Without deer or any other hunted animal your tree would only have one branch YOUR IT. Try to survive in the woods without your rice patties. Try having a family of 4 and loose your job to outsourcing...what would you do for food??? Try it the GOOD OLE' AMERICAN WAY....EAT MEAT THAT YOU KILLED. Go the true "Organic Way" kill and process your own. Thanks, A broke out of work mom of 2.

truth is most people who hunt or fish truly do care about the environment since theyre OUT IN IT OFTEN! rarely do you get those people who just do it for the kill. ive never been one to do either, myself, but I've grown up around plenty that do.

Good stuff -- I've grown up around hunters and they're often more interested in the environment than the suburban wannabe hippies.
