O'Reilly, who in the past has condemned hip hop artists such as Ludacris and Cam'Ron, expressed uncertainties with Nas' violent lyrics and a past gun charge. With that said, O'Reilly was disgusted with the decision to have the Emcee at the concert since it serves as a memorial to victims of gun violence in the recent Virginia Tech massacre.
O'Reilly called the decision "insulting the murder victims of Virginia Tech." He went on to say Nas' music is "as violent as they come." O'Reilly cited songs such as his Jay-Z diss, Ether and Got Yourself a Gun to back up his claims. O'Reilly never once mentioned the help Nas has done for the community or hip hop in general. Instead of analyzing all of Nas' music, he picked apart certain lyrics to prove his point and downplay hip hop as being a criminal act and not music.
He also had the audacity to shoot fire at Virginia Tech President Dr. Charles W. Steger, stating that Steger "knows Nas is inappropriate, but is too cowardly to do anything about it."
The video also shows O'Reilly citing some Virginia Tech students who are protesting Nas for being allowed to perform. Again O'Reilly found opinions that matched his to prove his point to his audience.
O'Reilly even went as far as to blame Steger's administration for the deaths in the massacre due to the slow response. Although this is in the past, O'Reilly has decided to make a mockery of V. Tech and the administration allowing them not to mourn, but to blame.
O'Reilly had guests on the show that agreed with his points and one guest, Kitwana, that disagreed. But being O'Reilly, he didn't want to hear the argument out.
Kitwana turned the argument back onto O'Reilly, stating "I think there is a history of media personalities, such as yourself, attempting to paint this blanket condemnation of hip hop."
Touché for hip hop.

Post a CommentO' Reily was desperate. There wasn't much he really could say bad about Nas so he had to try to take it below the belt. I like Nas' comment about people like O' Reily needing to be educated and that he was someone who was part of the group that shouldered that responsibility. No one really wants to take that responsibility in hip-hop, to prove the mainstream wrong. Leave it up to Nas to put that type of spin on it.
KILL BILL O'REILLY... KILL BILL O'REILLY... KILL BILL O'REILLY... KILL BILL O'REILLY... KILL BILL O'REILLY... KILL BILL O'REILLY... KILL BILL O'REILLY... KILL BILL O'REILLY... KILL BILL O'REILLY... KILL BILL O'REILLY.KILL BILL O'REILLY... KILL BILL O'REILLY... KILL BILL O'REILLY...
BILL O'REILLY IS A PEDOPHILE... LOOK AT HIS RECORD. HE USES ATTACKS ON OTHER PEOPLE TO MAKE HIMSELF FEEL BETTER ABOUT BEING SOME BOOTY CHASING CHILD GROPER. I WOULD ASK MYSELF WHY WOULD ANYBODY LISTEN TO A DIRTY PIECE OF SHIT? IF YOU GO THAT FAR THEN MAYBE LETS GET BILL O'REILLY OFF THE AIR HE IS AN INSULT TO WOMEN AND LITTLE KIDS. And for that guy who got on Rock and Roll (I'm black, but a major Rock Head... though hip hop is my first love) Name 25 Rock songs that glorify hurting/killing other people... now do the same with hip hop...) There is a problem, with rappers glorifying violence and a criminal lifestyle while flashig money, shiny objects, and beautiful women to a bunch of kids who have no one to look up to in their community... and then getting mad that folks who criticize them for being the most hypocritical and ignorant person on the planet when one could write a 10 page report on why you are... But after all of this Bill O'Reilly still proves to be more ignorant citing Nas
Wow, sweet article, now can you please refute Bill O'Reilly's claim instead of just criticizing the way that he made it?
I'm afraid there's a difference between taking an argument too far, resulting in low blows and putting out a record glorifying violent solutions to squabbles. And I'm not saying that Nas doesn't have the right to release these albums and say whatever he feels. But I do think having him appear at this memorial is foolish and inappropriate.
Now everyone is quick to say that while he incites violence, he also advocates positive messages... so I ask this. If a current member of the KKK had something positive and constructive to add to society would you overlook the fact that he was a racist and supported acts violence, if he were going to be appearing at the memorial. No, of course not...
Ya, people do tend to blame hip hop as a scapegoat. This article has some good points. But o'reily is entertaining
Maybe my opinion is somewhat biased because Nas is my favorite rapper but I can't think of any other hip hop artist right now who would be more fit to perform at a memorial for anyone or anything besides NAS. Maybe Common or someone along that line. It's sad because people like Bill O'reilly exist all around us. When they see rappers doing and saying bad things they are quick to jump on hip hop and condemn it. But, even when they try to do good things, which is what Nas is trying to do, they still point out their shortcomings and don't want them to be a part. It's like, everything that happens, blame rap. The L.A. riots, blame rap, ganga in America, blame rap, VA Tech murders, blame rap. As if the asian kid who killed all those people was listening to "IT Was Written" as motivation music. Yeah, everytime I listen to "One Mic" and "I CAN", I feel like killing a motherfucker. Give me a break.
Nas is one of the few well-known hip hop artists who is not too intimidated by pop charts to bring up topics like governmental indiscretions, speak to the community about peace, and is NOT dogging women out in his lyrics. Every time I hear a lyric from Nas about women, he's praising them or talking about one that he loves. As for his situation with Jay-Z, I have yet to meet ONE person on Planet Earth that didn't take an argument too far and result to low blows. Hell, I've got a handful of those incidents. On top of that, they squashed that. I wish somebody in the audience or on his show pointed out that they now work together.
