Billiards Trick Shot Basics

A billiards trick shot is played on a pool or a snooker table, and does something with the balls on the table which would seem implausible. Recently, other sports such as basketball have borrowed from the billiards trick shot and use the term trick shot in their own matches as well.

A lot of international cue sports competitions are increasingly incorporating the billiards trick shot in to professional as well as amateur matches. Many US and UK residents often watch these championships on TV, which provide so much cash that some players are able to specialize in the billiards trick shot.

One of the championships that incorporates the billiards trick shot is Trickshot Magic. The special feature of the billiards trick shot is that new tricks are encouraged and can be improvised, unlike artistic billiards in which the challenges to be won are already arranged, with a set pattern. There are many real standard tricks with the billiards trick shot, and professional players bring a lot of these tricks written down for competitions.

In most competitions in the USA which incorporate the billiards trick shot, each participant gets two turns to demonstrate each trick effectively, and each participant has his or her own chance to challenge the rest. The challenger tries to perform the billiards trick shot first, followed by the other participants.

The audience is by no means being neglected in these competitions which incorporate and showcase the billiards trick shot. Whether the event is for competition or demonstration purposes, the billiards trick shot players entertain the audience by narrating funny anecdotes or gags and talking about the billiards trick shot that they are going to present.

A lot of props can be used in the billiards trick shot, as improvisations with these props lead to higher difficulty levels. The billiards and non-billiards props used in the typical billiards trick shot may include coins, ball racks, cue tip chalk, glasses, bottles and baskets. Similar to artistic billiards professional players, billiards trick shot players often use specialized cue sticks to present specific kinds of the billiards trick shot.

Among props used, many billiards balls are very popular, and are used as blocks for the player to steer around, or to pocket all the billiards balls in one shot. In fact, even very few balls used for blocking can make performing the billiards trick shot a very formidable task indeed.

A common billiards trick shot is known as "Up and over", which has many other improvisations and variations because it presents the scope for them. Another billiards trick shot is "Up and in", and was invented by Mike Massey, who is a worldwide billiards trick shot champion.

This billiards trick shot involves jumping off a ball from the pool table and making it fall into a cowboy boot lying on the floor. Another popular billiards trick shot is "around the world" or "the train", and involves the banking off of the cue ball over three cushions. The "Machine gun" billiards trick shot is named after the machine gun like sound which it produces on being played.
