BillMatrix Complaints, Money Taken Out of Checking Account Without Permission

Billmatrix Has Withdrawn Money from Over 1000 Checking Accounts in Recent Weeks Without Customers Consent

Jennifer Moore
If you pay your home phone or electric bill through their payment system Billmatrix, you want to be careful. Billmatrix has withdrawn money from checking accounts in recent weeks without customers consent for the second withdrawal. When a Billmatrix customer service representative is called, they tell the customer it was a computer glitch and the original payment never went through their system, causing some consumers bank accounts to be withdrawn.

This cause written checks to be returned along with bank fees for insufficient funds plus fees to the place of business. Billmatrix does not call customers to tell them what is going on they simply withdraw the money and nothing is said until you receive notice from your bank and you in turn give Billmatrix a call.

It turns out Billmatrix wants to blame the company payment was made to. It's a back and forth game between the two companies involved. Neither of which want to refund the money owed to the customer.

When Bill matrix, the phone or electric company is asked about receiving a refund, they simply state you owed the money in the first place. Yes, that is true but Billmatrix should not be allowed to take money from a checking account 3 months later without notifying the customer first that there was a glitch several months prior.

There have been well over 1000 people in recent weeks that had money missing from their checking accounts due to Billmatrix and the computer glitch. One consumer who wants to remain anonymous stated "Billmatrix and Verizon told them it happened to all these people" If anyone has had this problem in the last few weeks or in recent months leave a comment with your story and the outcome of the situation. The more that consumers are alerted to this the better off every ones checking account will be.

Is this a type of fraud from Billmatrix? To a certain degree, it is because no customer was notified by letter or phone call of the computer glitch within the payment system.

Will Billmatrix or the companies involved return the customers money and any fees associated? Guess we will have to wait and see.

I am a new customer with Gulf Power...just moved here a month ago! I used billmatrix to pay my deposit...$250.00. I checked my bank account just this morning so I could pay my rent...guess what??? BILLMATRIX HAS REMOVED OVER $1200.00 from my bank account!!! Now I am in a world of trouble...no money for gas/food/rent.......when I was trying to make my deposit payment...they kept telling me that it did not go thru due to my zip code??? So instead of trying to pay it through BILLMATRIX...I sent them a personal check....don't know when that will be cashed....and it's $40.00 to stop payment...which I don't have either because billmatrix has all of my money!!!! MY SUGGESTION TO EVERYONE......EITHER MAIL YOUR ELECTRIC BILL DIRECTLY TO GULF POWER OR GO TO THEIR OFFICE AND PAY CASH...If I can get this straightened out.....I WILL NEVER EVER USE BILLMATRIX AGAIN!!! Ya'll wish me luck...I am not in the position to give away $1200.00......What can we do to stop this craziness??

I live in Florida and recently paid my staggaing power bill of almost 500.00. The next day, the childrens x-box and computer games cancelled. When I called my bank, I was floored to hear I was over 1300.00 overdrawn! Bill Matrix debited my account FOUR times! Sooo many things had been returned by my bank, Over the last four days, I have watched my account hole grow to 1500.00 with no end in sight. I play phone tag with Gulf Power, who ever so politely explain how it is not their fault or responsibility, my bank, who says to take it up with Bill Matrix, and calling the Bill Matrix phone number that is not in order. By the way if it helps the number is suppose to be 800-967-9649. I don't know when I'll get my money back or who will cover the mointain overdraft fee's, but I do know that I have no useable debit card, checks, and NO cash. I also know that they are counting on consumers to not have enough time, patiece, or money to hold them accountable. I do know that is the la

I'm having to go back and forth with Bill Matrix yet again. Here is the complaint I had to send them:

"I’ve tried to pay my bill, and your website glitched apparently twice. Now, apparently the third time, I’m told I’m once again Locked out of BEING ABLE TO POST PAYMENTS to my account. No warning, no counter to tell me how many attempts I’ve used. Nothing. Oh, but I can still do Any damn thing I please with my REAL account
on PSO’s website. It just making PAYMENTS with Bill Matrix that I’m now locked out of. WTF???
This happened a few months ago, and the Bill Matrix rep told me My “account” would be locked for 30 days!
This 1) makes NO SENSE – I’m trying to give YOU money! 2) Is just plain ridiculous – Your website glitches, and
I’m penalized for it. This HAS to stop. The last time this happened, it actually happened TWICE in the same day.
After 4 hours on the phone with various reps between Bill Matrix and PSO, we ended up having to

Thank you so much for posting this information Jennifer. My husband and I have just become one of the many victims affected by this company. BillMatrix withdrew almost $300 from our account, and while most companies at least post a phone number for contact. They do not list anything except their name and city and state. I immediately reported this to our financial institution and filed a complaint. We have not heard anything from them yet, however I decided to do some searching myself, and found this post. We have multiple check fees and are currently in the negative. It has been hard enough just to survive in this economy and have learned to make it work. However, it is terribly stressful when you have companies like this one that can just go in and take money from your account when every penny has already been accounted for. I am hopeful that our bank will take care of this situation, however until that happens we are put in a very bad situation. The stories on this site ha

Thank you Jennifer. I just had something similar just happened to me. Except mine was not a computer glitch, but a disclosure of my account information by Billmatrix. I willing authorized a ONE TIME BILL PAYMENT through billmatrix for a so called friend in need, to help pay her Dominion Power bill. I was in NJ she in VA so I agreed to get information from her and went through automated phone system to make a one time payment to meet her need. Payment processed and as far as I knew, end of me, Dominion Power and Bill Matrix. On November 22, 2010 my new checking account was debited, without my authorization, and overdrawn as a result of payment made to Dominion Power through bill matrix. How the payment was made? Well BillMatrix kept my acct information on file and linked and leaked it to my so called friend's account and she simply clicked on my account and paid HER bill. I was furious, because one time payment was suppose to be that..ONE TIME..I had NO idea that my account informa
