Bills Lose to Dolphins: Buffalo Will Not Make the Playoffs

Eric Harty
The Buffalo Bills started the season with a 4-0 record and quickly positioned themselves as one of the teams to beat. Since then, however, the team has posted a 1-2 record and only looks to be continuing this downward trend as their schedule features more divisional rivals. This past week the Bills lost to the 2-4 Miami Dolphins, showing that they couldn't even beat a weak team.

Miami did nothing special in this game, but like Arizona, beat Buffalo in the passing game. The Dolphins had three passes that went for 46 yards or more resulting in Miami having almost 100 more passing yards then the Bills did. While Buffalo's defense has looked good for most of the season, they have been completely dominated in the two losses. Still the defense did force one fumble, and played well enough in the second and most of the third quarters to give the team a chance to win.

The offense on the other hand did not. They struggled the whole game only able to score one touchdown, and having another drive that lead to a field goal, consisting of only Miami penalties. Then to finish the game Buffalo had five consecutive turnovers. The Bills final possessions consisted of an interception, a fumble, a safety, a fumble, and a failed punt recovery. The Bills made it a habit to come back during the fourth quarter earlier in the season, but to try to do it with this little discipline never had a chance of working.

With a win over the Rams, New England has now caught up to the Bills in the Eastern division and given how both teams are doing are likely to pass them. Despite Buffalo's quick start it would be a huge mistake to think that they still have a chance at making the playoffs. Their play has been too sloppy and their wins have been too lucky. What the Bills showed in Miami is that they do not have what it takes to be a playoff team.
