Main Review

An action game with a space cowboy hero, Billy Frontier is a unique iPhone 3GS application composed of four mini 3D games.

Game 1 - Shoot out

The first Billy Frontier mini game sees the hero traveling the streets, collecting coins, getting extra ammunition and shooting the 'bad guys'. The aim is to get to the end of the sequence before the character's shield runs out.

Game 2 - Stampede

The second mini game requires controlling the character, guiding him to avoid being run over by the stampede. The character is controlled by tilting the phone left and right. The player also needs to collect coins that can get him extra points. The aim of this mini game is to reach the end of the course first.

Game 3 - Target Practice

The third mini game, as the name suggests, has the hero, Billy Frontier, hitting objects thrown up in the air. A lot like target practice. Simple in concept but quite a lot of fun, Target Practice can see players spending a lot of time trying to shoot down targets. Players can shoot boxes of ammunition to add more to his stock of bullets. The game levels end when the player runs out of time or ammunition. The game also ends when the character's shield goes down to zero. The aim of this game is to remain alive until the end of the level or until the time runs out.

Game 4 - Dueling

The fourth game is quite different from the other arcade type mini games in the Billy Frontier app. Players are shown a series of shapes, after which he will need to hit the same series in the same order in rapid succession.

Game 1 of the Billy Frontier app probably holds the most promise. It is a lot of fun but can do with better controls. Games 2 and 3 are simply loads of fun. Game 4, on the other hand, can become very difficult and frustrating. The sometimes unresponsive game controls don't help as well.

Pricing

The Billy Frontier action game is available for purchase at the iTunes store for $5.99.

Conclusion

The game's sound and graphics are excellently done. Game controls are okay but with a few difficulties, the game's re-usability is average as well. Billy Frontier gets a rating of 3.5 out of 5.
