Billy Joel and Elton John: Face 2 Face

Foxboro, MA

Quite a few months ago a friend of mine contacted me and asked if I would be interested in seeing Billy Joel and Elton John. At first I thought she was talking about two different concerts. I had seen Elton John in concert and that was fantastic but would love to see Billy Joel and did not know about paying for two concerts.

Then she informed me of something that sounded too good to be true. I did not have to attend two concerts instead they were playing together! The price $120 which might sounds like a lot but we did have pretty good seats and in addition how often does one get the opportunity to see two iconic figures playing on one stage.

From the moment we arrived at Gillette Stadium (the venue for the concert), I was excited. There was such a wide variety of people there....from young and old, to couples and college kids, to the dressed up and those in shorts, from black and white to the sober and the not so sober.

As we took our seats and looked up we could see the two pianos facing each other. Each about to seat a legend. The sides had large banners. On Elton John's side one with images and phrases from his native England and on Billy Joel's side images and phrases from his native New York. Here on this stage were about to sit two of the most amazing musicians from other sides of the Atlantic on one stage.

The excitement I felt prior to the concert was nothing like what I felt once it began. They started out singing together some well-known but early from their career songs. Afterwards, Elton took the stage alone and sang and played the piano for close to an hour singing some great and fun songs from slow to fast. Then it was Billy's turn and like Elton he sure did not disappoint. In fact he was even quite funny talking and interacting with the audience and even trying to speak in a native Boston accent.

All throughout the concert old people and young people alike were singing together and standing up dancing. It was a sight to see.

The highlight of the night however came at the end. The two joined up again and sang hit after hit alternating between songs by Elton and songs by Billy. Each singing and playing with the other and sounding as great together as they did singing the songs apart. The last segment included classics, Candle in the Wind, Uptown Girl, Crocodile Rock and ending the night with the fitting "Piano Man".

The concert was well worth the money. It started at 7:30 and ended at 11:30 without a moments rest. Two phenomenal stars providing us with a concert to remember. I have been to quite a few concerts but can honestly say this is the best yet.
