Binary Rapture

The Singularity as described by Ray Kurzweil seems to be a description of technological cancer. An out of control evolution and mutation of digitality and nanoism that eventually envelopes and digests humanity.

This scenario is the grist of many years of science fiction and may well be the future if science and society do not implement rapidly advancing protocols to partner with the developement and implemention of new technologies.

Scientists within the laboratory are generally careful and concerned. They abide age old procedural etiquettes. Their bosses, the monied men who drive and pay for research goad them to into racing developement for the want of profit.

The public appetite for gizmos is seemingly mindless. The blurred distictions between toy, tool, helpful application and frivilous obsession have never been dilineated and brought into focus. This is how things get out of hand and unintended change happens.

Manners relate to mannerisms; always ask yourself what would mother (or grandmother) allow? Talking on the phone at the dinner table? No. Having a loud disembodied arguement in a public place? No. Playing with toys when talking to others? No. Giving in to distraction when attention is required? No.

Good sense and etiquette should not need to be legislated.

Evolution takes time. Cancer is destructive because the mutation is rapid and out of control. I prefer the singularity of human genius rather than some binary rapture.
