Biography: Christian Songwriter Matt Redman

Jesus Saves

Matt Redman has risen quickly, and is one of the most respected songwriters today. Not only are many of Matt Redman's songs featured on many worship events and projects around the world, Matt has kept the sight of the truth and describes himself as "Just a songwriter, and a pretty foolish one at that." Matt Redman has been one of the most involved and young leaders in the worship movement in Great Britain and has been an inspiration to many groups such as Sonic Flood, WOW Worship, Revival Generation and Passion. Matt Redman has written some of the most popular songs in the Christian songs today.

Some of the most popular of Matt Redman's songs include "The Heart Of Worship", "Better Is One Day", "Let Everything That Has Breath", "Knocking On The Door Of Heaven", "Once Again", "O Sacred King" and many more. Many of these songs have shown up popular worship projects such as Passion, WOW and more.

The latest solo project of Matt Redman is The Father's Song. This is only his third American release are The Freindship and The Fear, and later The Heart Of Worship. Much like the other two, Matt Redman's songs feature guitar-based modern rock/pop with gentle piano and strings. His songs allow one to taste the celebration of worship, and the intimacy of worship at the same time.

Matt Redman served as the worship leader for the Soul Survivor youth congregation in Watford, England, and believes that he is called to a ministry to the younger generation. In his own words:

"We get the privilege of traveling to different countries, and everywhere we've seen the same thing - more and more young people finding real passion for God and longing to express it. Music is a wonderful way of expressing that love they have for Him. Over the last few years we've been in the most raucous, wild, loud times of worship imaginable, and also in times of holy silence. It's wonderful to see what's happening."

Matt Redman is based in Brighton, England currently, with his wife Beth, and two kids - Maisey and Noah. Other than just writing songs, he has also written a couple of books - The Unquenchable Worshipper, and Facedown. Facedown accompanied the album by the same name.

Matt Redman first became a part of the massive revival and worship leader when he was just 15. The annual worship retreat that he started with the pastor then has now grown into the Soul Survivor's annual youth festival where more than 13,000 teenacgers gather for teaching and worship. He has also travelled much of the world - to Holland, Ireland, Norway, South Africa, U.S. And more leading worship for different events that include The OneDay Even by Passion.

Starting at such a young age, Matt was inspired to write from his personal experience and worshipful encounters with God, and the events around him. For example, the song "Heart of Worship" was inspired by his pastor who got rid of all sound equipment and the band so that the people could focus on God instead of the band. In fact, the song was originally not even a song, just an expression of Matt's. And it's clear in the song that it's meant to be intimate and a private conversation with God. That's what all of Matt Redman's songs are like, and that's what makes them so great - the firm focus on Jesus.
