Dave took an interest in journalism, and after graduating high school attended college at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dave's period of college would end there though since his parents tragically die one after the other. His father came down with lung cancer, and then his mother became afflicted with lung cancer shortly after. This was the writing of Dave's first book, "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius." That book was something that very quickly made the top of the list, becoming a bestseller, and won a final Pulitzer Prize. After this point and time, Dave was 21 years of age and took over the parenting of his younger then eight year old brother Christopher. The other two siblings were not able to take over or help with the raising of Chris since they were busy with their lives during this time. It was said in the biography of Dave Eggers that there were some very hurt feelings between him and his sister Beth. Beth was a lawyer for some time, and then she later committed suicide during the year of 2002. Whether or not her suicide was partly due to the falling out she had with Dave is unknown.
Dave is currently married to a woman namely Vendela Vida who had their child back in the year of 2005, a girl, and then in the year of 2008 she gave birth to a boy. Dave is living in the San Francisco Bay area at this current time.
Eggers other accomplishments include a book, "You Shall Know Our Velocity, written in 2002. The book focuses on two characters Will and Hand, both friends since their childhood years. These two characters have a lot of money which they would like to share, so they travel around the world and try to do just that.
Dave Eggers is also part founder of an independent publishing house which is known as McSweeney's. Dave is also busy in his teaching of writing skills in San Francisco, California, which he and his wife Vendela founded together back in the year of 2002. This is actually a place for teaching children writing skills and tutoring and is nonprofit.
