As a young girl, Elizabeth liked to compose poetry, and one time, she submitted a poem to a magazine for young girls which was declined by the editor. This discouraged Elizabeth for a very long time, and finally, at about age 34, she submitted something to a contest for writers in a magazine. That time she was lucky, and won the contest. After that experience, Elizabeth continued her writing ventures for magazines until she reached her forties. After that time, she started to focus in on writing books, and eventually became a published author. When the day came, and Elizabeth was lucky enough to become published, she decided to center most of her book themes on things like family, relationships, and health and illnesses.
Before Elizabeth became a full time writer, she had been a registered nurse for ten years. After she retired from her nursing job, she then went into writing on a full time basis. Her first book published, was back in the year of 1993. Durable Goods is a book about violence in a family on the part of the father. The characters Katie and her sister Diane are at the mercy of their father, especially after their mother dies. Durable Goods won an award for the best book of the year by the American Library Association. That was a very special award of many received.
Some of Elizabeth's works pertain to her experiences as a nurse. One such book that reflects her nursing experience is her, "Range of Motion," that was published back in the year April of 2000. The book centers around a comatose patient, Jay, whose wife Lainey has all the hopes in the world that he will wake up.
Another one of Elizabeth's books that sound interesting is, "Until the Real Thing Comes Along." This book centers around the character Patty Murphy, who wants a husband and a child so desperately. Patty falls in love, but the one major problem with this love of hers, is that Ethan is gay.
Elizabeth Berg to date, has about 20 books that have been published, and she has won awards for a number of her books.
