Bucky Lasek began skateboarding in 1984 at the age of twelve. After a year or so of learning how to skate and do basic tricks, Lasek began entering amateur skateboarding contests throughout Maryland and eventually all over the East Coast.
In 1987, Powell Peralta skateboarding talent scouts saw Bucky at one of the amateur skateboarding contests and recognized his ability to skate. Powell soon became Bucky Lasek's sponsor, and they helped him start to make skateboarding videos.
In 1988, in the Bones Brigade video, "Public Domain," Bucky made his skateboarding video debut at the age of sixteen. After two years of working in skateboarding videos, Lasek was awarded by Powell when he became a pro skateboarder.
Over the next few years, Bucky Lasek continued entering skateboarding contests throughout the East Coast and eventually the nation. He immediately became one of the top skateboarders in the nation.
It wasn't until the 1990s when the X Games became a major sporting event that Bucky Lasek gained the immense skateboarding fame that he has today. His personality and flair at skateboarding events made him a favorite among fans.
Bucky Lasek is considered one of the top vert skateboarders in the world. He has landed almost all of the toughest tricks tried and has invented many of these tricks as well.
After his many years of top finishes on the amateur and professional skateboarding circuits, Bucky Lasek's success has continued on in the X Games. He has won a total of eight X Games medals. Five of the eight X Games medals that Bucky has won have been gold. He has been the most successful in the X Games vert competition including gold medals in that event at the 1999 and 2000 X Games.
2004 was one of Bucky's best years as a skateboarder when he won three major titles including the Gravity Games, the Slam City Jam, and the Vans Triple Crown. Many of Bucky Lasek's top finishes have been in competitions against other skateboarders such as Tony Hawk and Andy MacDonald. In 2005, he also won the Overall Dew Action Sports Tour.
Bucky Lasek currently lives in Southern California in the city of Carlsbad, near the home of the X Games, Los Angeles.
