One of the most anticipated games of the holiday season has been delayed. BioShock 2 for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 won't be released until the first half of 2010. First released on August of 2007 for the PC and Xbox 360, the original BioShock took the gaming industry by storm. While originally exclusive to those two platforms, many speculated that the game would eventually end up on the Playstation 3. Despite numerous denials, BioShock was released on the Playstation 3 last October with several extras.

BioShock is an incredible experience whether you play the game on the PC, Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. The first-person shooter features more depth than your typical game in the genre. In addition to the open-ended gameplay, BioShock also includes magic-like plasmid abilities in addition to level progression. The game really shines with the incredible atmosphere of its underwater city environment. BioShock became one of the highest-rated games ever and ended up selling millions of copies.

While many believed that BioShock doesn't need a sequel, publisher and developer 2K Games couldn't ignore the big sales from the first game. Not being able to capitalize off of it could lose the gaming company millions on revenue. Therefore, BioShock 2 went into development.

In the sequel, you play as the first Big Daddy, tough enemies in which you encountered in the original game. In addition to your brand new drill attack, BioShock 2 will also introduce a brand new enemy called Big Sister. Finally, the upcoming title comes with online multiplayer support.

BioShock 2 for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 is certainly an ambitious project for 2K Games. In fact, three development studios are needed to build the game. 2K Marin, who is partly responsible for the Playstation 3 port of BioShock, is handling the single player portion of the sequel. Meanwhile, Digital Extremes is working on the multiplayer aspects. Finally, Arkane Studio is helping out mainly in the visual department for BioShock 2.

Because of their big investment for BioShock 2, 2K Games decided to delay the game until the first half of 2010. This is done to ensure that the quality of the sequel would be at least up to par with the original. Not to mention that it could be a blessing in disguise. While BioShock is popular, it would have gotten lost in the shuffle in the holiday season when more popular titles are released.

While fans are disappointed with the delay of BioShock 2, the longer wait will be worth it in the end with a better and more polished product.
