BioShock: New Kid on the Block

One of the newest names to first person shooters is emerging as a big gun. BioShock was released a few weeks ago but has received rave reviews on the game play mechanics and graphics to name a few things. The story starts on an airplane that crashes in the ocean. You are the only survivor and just happen to crash by a large building in the middle of nowhere. You swim over to the building to find an elevator that goes down. From there the adventure begins in the underwater city of Rapture. The underground nightmare, built out of blood, sweat, tears, lies and power.

The idea was that the people of Rapture lived in a utopia of medical science, and free thought. They had to give up little to live in a wonderful society with medical and physical tonics and plasmids that would enhance and beautify the human body.

However something went wrong, and the people are killers and they are out to get you. You have one friend who needs your help to save himself and his family. But he needs you to help him to survive. Along your journey you find weapons and use chemicals that allow you to use elemental powers like fire and ice.

This game is cross platformed with the PC and Xbox 360. I have played on both console and computer and would rather play on PC. There are many reasons behind my decision and here they are. I own the PC version and my brother has the Xbox 360 version. The Xbox has a better graphics card than my PC and therefore looks way better. The game play is the same as far as I can tell.

However I like being able to hit a key to pull out my shotgun on the fly. It feels more comfortable to my hands, but then again its because I have been playing on the PC. The sensitivity and accuracy is significantly increased on the PC though.

The game offers a small bit of RPG elements in the fact of slots for special abilities and performance enhancers. You can use plasmids that give you powers like fire, ice, electricity and others. You also have slots available for damage boosts, defense increase and more health from first aid kits. Managing what plasmids and body enhancers is a interesting task based on the level and predicament you might be in.

Overall this game has much to offer to new gamers and the more experienced ones. I would say the game has some suspenseful and startling moments. Not for the light of heart. Just kidding. Or am I?
