Bipolar Depression

Bipolar depression is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in a person's mood, energy and ability to function. This disorder typically develops in early adulthood. It is long-term illness.

Bipolar depression distorts mood and thoughts, incites dreadful behavior, destroys the basis of rational thoughts and erodes the desire and will to live.

Some symptoms of the bipolar disorder are the following:

# Low self-esteem.

# Fatigue.

# Increased need for sleep.

# Social withdrawals.

# Loss of emotional control, cries easily or for no reason.

# Headaches, backaches, digestive problems.

# Unable to concentrate, make decisions, or remember details.

# Suicidal thoughts.

# Inability to feel happiness or pleasure.

# Increased performance of goal directed activities.

# alcohol or drug abuse.

# Irritation.

# Irresponsible spending.

Even if the family and friends learn to recognize the mood swings as possible bipolar disorder, the person may deny that anything is wrong. Psychotic symptoms in bipolar disorder tend to reflect the extreme mood state at the time. Some examples of psychotic symptoms in bipolar disorder are delusions of grandiosity, such as believing one is the president or has special powers or wealth, delusions of guilt or worthlessness, such as believing that one is ruined or has committed some terrible crime. People with bipolar disorder who have these symptoms are sometime incorrectly diagnosed as having Schizophrenia.

Some people with bipolar disorder become suicidal. Anyone who talks about suicide needs immediate attention and should be taken seriously. People who have the feeling of suicide may talk about feeling suicidal, may feel hopeless, that nothing will ever change or get better, feel helpless, feeling that they are burden to friends and family.

People suffering with depression can only be handled with care, love and understanding.
