You could feel very high on life one moment and then very down the next second. It is very hard sometimes because you may feel that you are ready to die, that you have nothing to live for. However, the very next second you may feel like the luckiest person in the world due to all your accomplishments in life.
You can also find this disorder referred to as Bipolar Affective Disorder. This name was replaced by the old name Manic-depressive illness which was first discovered by Emil Kraepelin in the 19th Century.
Bi-polar Disorder usually is noticed among young adults. It is not hard to spot the signs and symptoms of Bi-polar Disorder because it all depends on your mood changes. Those who are familiar with Bipolar Disorder notice very many down times including suicidal thoughts. It is suggested by different studies that this disorder is caused by genetics. Some studies also note that it is caused by early environment issues, neurobiology, or psychological and social processes.
The treatment of Bipolar Disorder is generally treated by use of medications. It can also being treated by use of therapy and/or counseling. The medications used for Bipolar Disorder are mood stabilizers with lithium and sodium valproate combined in them. These ingredients help to prevent any relapses of future episodes. You may also be prescribed antipsychotic medications, also referred to as neuroleptics with the ingredient olanzapine which are mainly used to treat manic episodes.
Sometimes when antidepressants don't work hospitalization is needed. Bipolar is not easy on anyone, espiecally the one who has the disorder. There are a lot of emotional ups and downs. It feels like sometimes you are on a roller coaster full of emotional craziness. You can expect lots of feelings, feelings of joy and then feelings of hopelessness.
Bi-polar disorder and a controllable condition but it is also very hard finding the exact medication that is right for you. There are medicines that might make you feel worse while other medicines make you feel great and like yourself again. Make sure you watch for all signs when started a new medicine, especially if it's a medication that involves antidepressants.
Bi-polar disorder is hard to handle sometimes but as long as you are persistent then you can deal with it in your life.
