1/2 package (.25 ounce) Active dry yeast
1/2 cup Warm milk
2 tablespoons Butter, melted
2 tablespoons Brown Sugar
1 Egg
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1-3/4 cups All purpose flour
2 teaspoons Water
As needed Peppercorns

Step 1
Dissolve yeast in warm milk in a large mixing bowl. Add the butter, brown sugar, egg, salt and flour. Mix until smooth.2
Step 2
Stir in enough more flour if needed until soft dough is formed. Turn onto a floured surface. Knead six to eight minutes until smooth.3
Step 3
Place in a greased bowl. Turn once to grease top. Cover with a dish towel and set rise in a warm place about one hour until the dough is doubled.4
Step 4
Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Divide into eight equal balls.5
Step 5
Roll each ball into a rope. Tie into a knot. Pinch one end of the rope to form a beak. Flatten the other end and slice slits for a feathered tail. Place two peppercorns above each beak to create eyes.6
Step 6
