Birding Texas: Martin Dies, Jr. State Park

If you are looking for over 700 acres of lovely bird watching in Jasper, Texas, try visiting Martin Dies, Jr. State Park. (Martin Dies, Jr., was a former Texas senator, Texas Secretary of State, and Chief Justice of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.) In addition to bird watching, you can fish, camp, hike, picnic, swim and boat here. Over 200 species of birds have been sighted at Martin Dies, Jr. State Park in Texas, including Swallow-tailed Kites, Anhingas, and Prairie Warblers. It has bird watching habitats that include dense forests of pine, oak, beech and other trees, B.A. Steinhagen Lake, marshes, creeks, and many more. Wood Duck. This beautiful little duck is easy to recognize while bird watching from its crested green and purple head with white stripes, brown back, white throat, and purple-brown breast.
