Great Gift Ideas for the Elderly, Grandparents, and Senior Citizens

Are you on a budget or unsure of what to get a grandparent or senior citizen for his or her birthday? Below are some great gift ideas for seniors that cost $10 or less! In addition, these are gifts that are sure to be used and appreciated, and are easy to locate from your home, local shopping area, or online. Pick one, or mix or match, here they are waiting for you:

Movies - Everyone has a favourite movie that they love, the question is, do you want to present it on DVD or as a movie ticket? If you are unsure, both AMC Theatres and Blockbuster rental store have gift cards available at many merchants. Take into consideration whether or not the person drives and if so, how far is the nearest movie establishment to their home.

Plants and bushes - Does your senior love to garden? Perhaps a plant or bush would add some color to their home or yard. This is a great gift because, with proper care, it will last for many years. Take into consideration a person's yard (full shade or partial shade) and whether or not they live in a place with a yard, terrace, or porch, as sizes vary from hanging baskets to large potted trees.

Coffee, Tea, and Cookie Basket - While a birthday cake may be too much for a person who lives alone or their spouse, many seniors (and other people too) love coffee and cookies. A tastefully arranged gift basket with coffee, tea, and cookies is another great idea. Be sure to remember if your senior likes coffee or tea (regular or decaf) and if they have any special medical conditions (allergies or diabetes) when selecting cookies.

Pet Products - While ot a birthday gift for the person himself/herself, for seniors who may live on their own and have pets, they are their most trusted companions. If possible, a treat or toy for their pets is another great idea too!

Book lovers - Will definitely appreciate a book from their favourite author. Older people can also appreciate large-print titles if they are available. Unsure if your recipient already has a book? No problem, all of the major book retailers (Books A Million, Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Amazon.com) all offer either gift cards or e-gift certificates.

Whatever gift you decide on, as long as it comes from the heart, it will always be loved and appreciated.

I suggest you get a Just cell phone. I gave my elderly mom one for her birthday a couple of months ago and she is very happy about having a phone. She can manage to call and text friends and family easily since the phone has large keys and bright display and is also very basic. She can also contact help immediately through the phone's PERS features. I found this phone at www.just5.com.
