Birthday Hot Spots in Melrose Park, IL

P.A. Brown
When people think of Illinois, the first thought is Chicago, but there's way more to Illinois than city lights and party nights. Melrose Park, Illinois is a deep rooted family orientated town and if you're planning a trip to Illinois, Melrose Park is an excellent place to call your rest destination.

North Avenue is a main road that runs throughout many towns and counties. Taking North Ave East leads you straight through an urban area, a very shopalistic area, and then to the fabulous downtown area. But if you're looking for fun for the kids, your best option is to travel westbound on North Avenue toward the suburbs.

Kiddeland Amusement Park

One of the best known attractions on North Ave happens to be in a town called Melrose Park- Kiddieland Amusement Park, www.kiddieland.com.

This kid sized amusement park has been around since 1929, first surfacing during the great depression. Located at 8400 W. North Avenue, Kiddieland is designed for children. Literally, this park was geared around a child's size, speed, and actions.

The rides are made for kids up to 54 inches tall with rides uniquely crafted for very small children and babies. I personally remember my first time going to Kiddeland back in 1992 and I thought it was great! But looking at Kiddieland now, it's like a great America for toddlers and up. For most of Kiddieland's rides if your child can hold their head up on their own they can ride the rides.

Kiddeland also has special guest appearances from Dora, Clifford, Scooby-doo, SpongeBob, and many more. For more info call (708)343-8000 or check out the website listed above.

E-tickets can be purchased on the website.

Monkey Island

This is a personal favorite to take your kids for birthday parties or just a day out of the house. Its location is 2100 N. 15th Ave, Melrose Park; IL 60160 (can turn off North Ave). Any kid that's been here would rather have their party here than at Chuck-E-Cheese. At http://www.yelp.com/biz/monkey-island-melrose-park parents place their comments about this new warehouse of fun.

Monkey Island allows you to sit back and let your kids run wild. It's a cluster of warehouses linked together for fun of all ages.

When you first walk in your first thought is, "Oh my God, this place is huge!" Then you'll begin to see why kids love this place. It has a maze of huge, adventurous, inflatable jungle gyms, and there's also a huge inflatable slid my son became addicted to.

Walk along into another warehouse you will see a mini bar,(no alcohol),along with free sci-fi for those of appropriate ages. There's also a small arcade and an area for soccer play. If your in the mood to play a little ball an indoor gym is available. If laser tag's your thing an additional warehouse provides that and a couple pool tables.

But the most awesome part of Monkey Island is The Indoor Grand Prix Racetrack. Call (708)344-4803 or check out www.playmonkeyisland.net for more views, but personal experience speaks for itself.

Grand Prix Indoor Racetrack

How awesome would it be for your kid/s to have a party at one of the largest indoor racetracks built? With a track designed for speed and safety there is no way your kid/s wouldn't have fun. Visit www.mpgrandprix.com for more info.

Chuck-E-Cheese

This is the classic birthday spot to take your kids on their birthday or to just simply allow them freedom from the world. Admission is always free leaving only the food and tokens to take care of. Your child also receives 20 free tokens on their birthday, but joining the Chuck-E-Club allows more coupons and savings opportunities.

This hot party spot is located at 1315 W North Ave., Melrose Park, IL 60160. Contact (708)343-1224 for info on reservations and party planning.
Safari Land

Located at 701 W. North Ave., Villa Park, IL 60181 Safari Land has become the largest indoor Amusement park in Illinois. This is another AWESOME place to take the kids. Smaller children can play the games in the arcade or ride rides appropriate to their standards.

Tiger Terror is the largest indoor roller coaster in Illinois and adds an extra thrill to the twist and turns. There is also a huge bowling alley along with the Safari Speedway Go Carts and Merry-go-Round. With hours running late (12am and 12:30 am) on Friday and Saturday your kids are sure to have a ball and a good night's sleep.

Cinemark Theatre

Many people under estimate the value of a movie party or an after party movie treat for the special b-day baby. It's an awesome way to have a low-key birthday party but probably won't do a lot on savings.

With its location right behind the Chuck-E-Cheese and a block away from Kiddieland a dark arena of spectacular mind blowing thrills and visual adventure will cap off any day of fun. Restaurants are surrounding this area along with shopping venues so paying for expensive movie theatre food doesn't have to be an option.
