Birthday Parties for Dogs and Cats

Rebecca Said
Birthday parties are a great way to celebrate the passing of each year. To give thanks for someone special in our lives and to create memories of happy times together. Dogs and cats are such dedicated companions, that it only seems right to extend the fun of a birthday party to them as well.

Keep in mind, that the whole idea of this party is to create a fun event in which your pet will be happy and have a good time. You will also want to create some memories that you can look back upon and smile. I would suggest getting a scrapbook or photo album, so that you have a place to store your photos and mementos of the birthday celebration.

One "must have" keepsake from the party is a permanent impression of your dog or cats paw print. First, take some molding clay and warm it in your hands then flatten it into a square tile. Gently press your dog or cats paw into the middle to form an impression, and allow it to dry. Once it is dry you can paint it with acrylic paint, and add one or two coats of varnish to preserve the tile. In addition, I would recommend taking a lot of pictures for your scrapbook at the birthday party as well.

You will probably need to adjust the type of party that you are planning, based on your dog or cats personality. Some dogs would love having a few canine friends come over, and some would be uncomfortable with any other animals coming over. But if you feel that your pet may enjoy company make some nice birthday party invitations and send them out. Cut out rectangle, square or other shaped pieces of colored cardboard and write funny party invitations to your dog's good friends. Make a bone shaped card or a card that says MEOW in big letters, that will get their attention.

I have seen recipes on the internet for cat and dog birthday cakes that are so cute. But some of them have too much sugar or ingredients that may not agree with your pet. I wouldn't suggest deviating too far from your dog or cats normal diet, even on their birthday. But perhaps give them a healthy treat that they may not get everyday, for example my pets really enjoy boneless boiled chicken or tuna as a treat. Make sure you have plenty of food for the birthday guests as well.

Try to mark at least one day off each year to honor the pet in your life, and have a lot of fun in the process.

I can't afford all the band aids it would take to cover the cat scratches.
