Birthday Party Games that Keep the Party Alive

Birthday Party Games that Are Fun

B. Hatcher
How many parties have we gone to where the same game is played again and again? How many times can we pin the tail on the donkey or musical chairs without feeling mundane. Time has come to forget the games of parties past and bring on some new fun. A few games that will keep the party fire going and excitement building.

Read a story and pass the box:
Wrap a small gift in a box. Write a very simple story about the birthday child using the words right and left often with the last word of the story being either right or left. Have everyone sit in a circle and read the story. Each time they here the word left or right they must pass the box to that direction.

For example: Sara was walking to the store, when she got to the corner she turned left. Right in front of the store was a five dollar bill. She picked it up and looked to her left and then to her right and saw no one sight. Sara went into the store and saw a clerk on her left. She asked him where to find soap, he told her to down the aisle and turn right.

Make the story silly and you will have everyone laughing as they are trying to listen for the right and lefts. When you reach the last word whoever is holding the box gets to keep the prize inside.

A great game for preteen girls is to have groups of 3 or 4 girls, design a dress using toilet paper. One girl is the model and the others must design a dress around her. Provide them with toilet paper, stickers and tape. You can also add markers, glue and construction paper so they can make designs. When each team is done, have the girls vote on who is the best dressed. Make sure to tell them they can not vote for their own team. Have first and second prizes. Don't forget to capture the memory on film.

Now you have two games to make a birthday party fun without playing musical chairs or pin the tail on the donkey. Each of these games will provide laughter and conversation for the rest of the day. Have a great time and enjoy the party.
