One idea for a 5 year old birthday party is Legos. Legos are cheap to buy and you may already have a good collection going. Make sure you can clear all the furniture out of a room. Get a few small tables to put the Legos on. Depending on how many kids you invite, divide them into small groups. Try to make sure they have about the same amount of Legos for each group. Have the groups work as teams to build something they like. See who can build the biggest building or the best new car. Any kid should enjoy a Legos party, this should be an inexpensive birthday party. All you will need to buy, is a cake and some refreshments for the kids.
If it is a summertime birthday party, involve some water sports. Some water guns and water balloons from Wal-mart would make any kids day. Add a slip and slide into your budget to keep the kids busy for hours. Make sure to have some sun screen on hand. You can also buy a cheap sprinkler for the hose. All these combined make for a pretty cheap birthday party.
You can have a treasure hunt party. This is best done at a local park. Bury some inexpensive gifts in Tupperware containers before the party. Draw up treasure maps and hand them to the kids. Make sure to put the treasure next to noticeable landmarks that the kids can identify. It is always fun finding buried treasure. You can make the treasure out of candy, healthy snacks, small toys, anything else the kids might enjoy. This should be a great birthday party for 5 year olds.
Every 5 year old loves Thomas the Train. Have a party centered on Thomas. You can make some homemade train tickets to give to the kids. They can play train video games and pretend they are the conductor. Any party supply store should carry Thomas the Train decorations. If you don't want to pay for the decorations, make your own. I read somewhere about a game called Pin the Whistle on the Steam Engine. It is just like Pin the Tail on the Donkey, except the kids have to get the whistle on the train. It is something different that the kids should enjoy.
Whatever your choice for a birthday party, remember to enjoy the time with your kids. Don't get stressed about making a big party. Your 5 year old will appreciate anything you do for them at this age. They enjoy being the center of attention and playing with friends. The birthday party doesn't have to break your wallet. I hope you enjoy some of these inexpensive birthday party ideas.
