Bishop Eddie Long 's Sermons Manipulating and Self Serving?

Bishop Long is Very Careful to Choose His Words in His Sermon

Roz Zurko
Bishop Eddie Long's sermons are becoming a work of art. The man has become an expert at talking about his alleged sex abuse cases, without actually saying the words. In the same fashion he is able to dismiss any wrong doing without definitively denying the charges.

Tuesday's sermon by Bishop Long talked about "keeping the faith in the wake of the storm." According to the website CBS Crimesider, Long did not make it clear whether he was referring to his sex abuse case or not with this sermon.

This sermon is one example on how Long is getting very good at being able to ramble on in his defense in front of his congregation and disguising it as something else. As CBS Crimesider News reports, Long has been using his sermons for a pep rally for himself.

Long may just be abusing his power in the church by making the sermons all about him, especially when the media frenzy first started. Although his "followers" applaud and hoot and holler when Long makes a point that is "pro-Bishop Long," it is still a misuse of his power. He uses phrases such as, he is "riding out the storm," or that he is "not the man the media makes him out to be." This along with many other quick and catchy phrases, as talked about in the CBS Crimesider News article.

The front of the church it is not the place to be gathering momentum for his fight, especially with a captive audience. They are captive due to the religion they have practiced at The New Birth Missionary Church for years.

It appears that most everything that Bishop Long has done up to this point has been mainly about him and for him, instead of what is best for the church members. Evidence of this seen in Bishop Long's life style. He owns a mansion that cost 1.4 million dollars over ten years ago when the church purchased it for him. He owns a Bentley, and he has made millions of dollars in his salary, according to the website Get Religion.

Chances are the church members who give their hard earned money to the church do not live anywhere near the luxurious life that he does.

Bishop Long has still has not out right denied the charges of the sex abuse that the young men have filed against him, according to Crimesider. He has danced around this subject since it first came out in the media.

"I feel like David against Goliath," or "I have never said I was perfect, " are just a few more of the vague responses made about the allegations from Bishop Long during his sermons, according to CBS News.

It may just be what Long is not saying that is speaking the loudest. He is not definitively denying that he sexually abused the young men as the allegations state, according to CBS. Instead he appears to be rallying the church members over to his side with his sermons which consist of some very carefully chosen words.

The allegations and Long's lack of denying them have put the New Birth Missionary Church in a negative light in the media. For a man who professes to be a man of God, Long should care more about others than himself. Instead of stepping down, at least until the allegations are dealt with, he continues to use the church for his own good.

The church has provided Long a life style that only the richest people are accustom to and if these allegations are true, the Church has also unknowingly provided him a place to live a sub culture consisting of sex with teenage boys.

The opposite of spirituality, is materialism. This
does not mean being happy being poor, but rather
being satisfied with whatever station in life you are at.
We see time and time again, politcians who earn
generous salaries, still take bribes and become
    corrupt.
So, more money is not the answer. Just be happy with what you have.

Fast Eddie won't deny the charges outright, because there is probably some proof. I will know
there is a God, if a sex tape surfaces.
Notice how the "spiritual sons are very handsome?
No fatties or scrawny nerds here. If some ugly "sons" come forward, they'll be the ones who'll
say "he never touched me". Ha ha ha ha.
Come out, Eddie, the truth shall make you free!

A lot of FALSE churchs look at the MATERIAL LIFESTYLE instead of a 180 degree change in one's lifestyle. They say the people do not have enough faith and they should sacrifice with their $ to show their faith. There is not any empasis on living holy. Most sermos will probably be about the 'MAND OF GAWD' and how though tey have it (even though LOVE does not behave itself unseemingly). These churches usually have close family or friends that serve as the plurality of elders. The accountability is almost nil. One should be wary when the see the title 'Bishop', 'Apostle', 'Prophet' or Evangelist' before a preachers name. There is a lot of twisting of the scripture to place a guilt trip on the members or to make them give begrudgingly. These churches are scared to truly study the word or either they pick & choose what scratches their ears.

Congregation open eyes. Stop worshing the man (Long). Many black church members go wherever their pastor tells them to go. Follow the Bible, not your pastor. The mega-churchs give the pastor way too much power.

@ Texan- You stated, "You COWARDS should go after the people who are doing things that are BAD for every CITIZEN in this country, some of those CORRUPT, politicians, Corporations, etc.?" I am willing to bet, that you voted for Bush, and causally sat back as he lied about a war we could not afford, and "bought" the church with his "faith based initiative". You fake Christians sicken me!

    @ Texan & simonsmith

In my opinion, this story is not getting enough attention. If this person is using his position to do evil, he should be exposed! I DO NOT AGREE, with a closet homosexual/pedophile, hypocrite, that crucifies others for not living up to a standard that he himself can't live up to. This and the Ted Haggard incident is the very reason I do not believe in organized religion. I put organized religion in the same category as professional wrestling, it doesn't matter if it's real or fake, as long as you put on a good show.

    Oh...

I almost forgot, at least when it comes to professional wrestling, THEY DO PAY TAXES, unlike the immoral cesspool that is organized religion!
