We were going to sit outside on the pretty deck but the tables had no umbrellas and it was too sunny to be comfortable. We went inside and sat at a booth. The booths were divided by lace curtains and the many tables were covered in cloth with cloth napkins. The elegance of the table settings didn't match the casualness of the restaurant.
Our server was pleasant enough but not attentive enough. The restaurant was quiet on this weeknight at about 7:00p.m. off- season for posh Park City. We were given an order of bread with garlic oil in which to dip it. We split an appetizer of Thai spring rolls which were quite good. We got 2 for $7.99 and split them because the server said they were large. I could have eaten one myself. They come with pork but we asked for pork to be eliminated. Inside were shrimp, mushroom, bean thread, shredded carrots and peanut garnish.
My daughter in law and I ordered the scallops; my son got lamb; and my husband got the duck. I am glad a duck didn't come on the dish but for the price I didn't think his or my servings were large enough to match the cost.
My daughter in law took one bite of one of the 4 very large scallops (4 were not enough though) and said she didn't like it. I agreed that it was in a soy sauce and tasted more like Thai food than American or French food. Not only was there an Asian tasting sauce but the scallops were sitting in several inches of it. There were a few noodles and carrots in the middle.
Maybe I don't go to enough restaurants but I know I have encountered someone not liking their dish. Granted we did decide that the menu said it was in some kind of sauce but still- I stand by my opinion that for $25.99 they should have graciously said they were sorry and that they would be glad to make her another meal. Instead Holly ordered the duck and they put the scallops in a to-go box! Looking at the menu now our scallop dish says "miso ginger sauce" Truly it never occurred to me that "Pan Seared Sea Scallops" would be served almost as a soup.
I also know that it takes time to cook food but truly I think they cooked her duck slowly just to spite us because it must have been 20 minutes before she got her food. I was on a cup of coffee which wasn't bad by the time her food came. The waitress never asked how my husband's or son's food was or if I wanted more coffee.
My husband did like his duck which came with quinoa (a grain dish) and a goat cheese salad. Each entrée on the menu gives what kind of wine you might want to select for that particular dish.
There are too many restaurants in Park City for me to say I would eat here again. Although the food was good the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth (pardon the pun).
Bistro 412 does not take reservations except for large parties.
So for those restaurants reading this review - it doesn't pay to be cheap - you get a bad review written and people who won't come back.
