Bitten by the Bug to Work from Home

B. Anne
The "I want to work from home" bug has bitten me. While I know that working from home requires a level of dedication and commitment that is well above what I have in an outside the home job, I am ready to make the change and step up to the challenge.

I am working on this plan gradually. I am a teacher by profession. Right now, I have a full-time job outside the home. But, I have started building my "work at home" job solution and hope to have all of the particulars worked out within the next 12 months.

To start, I took on a part-time job. In this job, I teach a class online from home. I work about five hours a week at this job and never even have to leave my couch. I am hoping to find two or three more classes with this type of online format.

I have also begun writing for various avenues. I do short article writing. I also write trivia and math problem sets. Both of these projects allow me to work 100% at home.

Another project that I work on from time to time is proofreading. I found a company that was hiring proofreaders to work from home. I applied, took a test, and was hired. In this job, I am able to log in and work when I have extra time. While there are times when no work is available, I have found that it is not often.

I think I have a good base for beginning the work at home phase in my life. My plans for the next year are to continue with the work that I am currently doing from home. I will also build a website and start a blog. I would also like to start a "math homework help" forum. With all of these resources in place, I feel like working from home in a full time capacity will be possible.

I guess we are usually defined by what we do. I am a math professor who prefers to work with education majors. I enjoy going for long walks. I also really love being in the water!  View profile
