Bittersweet Splendor

Dr. Jamie Yvette
There are times when love is hard to profess

And feelings are too deep to confess

Caught off guard by something larger than us

Overwhelmed by the insatiable urge to touch

Overjoyed by the simplest, most mundane things

Ecstatic each time the telephone rings

Words fail but feelings continue to grow

Scared of clinging yet also afraid to let go

Fatefully moving toward the bittersweet end -

The loss of a special and beautiful friend

But tomorrow is yet another day away

And although some things, we will never say

We embrace each moment, each smile, each laugh,

Opting to forgo separation's aftermath

We make mental notes as we watch the sun set

Of all the things we intend to never forget
