Bizarre Driving Laws

MNM
Some of these laws are common sense. Others will make you scratch your head. Still others will make you laugh out loud. But all of these bizarre, strange, crazy and kooky laws-as far as I know-were (and in some cases still are) on the books at one time:

In California, it's against the law for a woman to drive a car while wearing a bathrobe or housecoat. So ladies, when you're cruising in the Golden State be sure to opt for a nightgown, PJs or teddy instead.

Just in case you were wondering...in Tennessee, it's illegal to drive a car while sleeping.

It's against the law for blind people to drive an automobile in New York.

In Illinois, the law requires that cars be driven with steering wheels. So perish those romantic notions of rowing your car down the road using oars.

In Alabama, it's illegal to drive a car while blindfolded.

It's against the law to drive while sitting on someone's lap in Cleveland, Ohio.

In order for a woman to drive a car legally in Memphis, Tennessee, a man must walk or run in front of it while waving a red flag to warn other motorists and pedestrians.

In Texas, it's legal to drive a car without a windshield, but you're breaking the law if you drive a car without windshield wipers.

In Thailand, it's illegal to drive a car if you're not wearing a shirt.

In Denmark, it's against the law to start a vehicle while someone is underneath it.

In order to remain in good standing with the law in Forest City, North Carolina, one must call City Hall before entering town in an automobile.

At one Wichita, Kansas, intersection-I won't tell you which one so you won't be tempted to try this-motorists are required to exit their vehicles and fire three shotgun rounds before proceeding.

It's against the law to eat in your own car in Bloomfield, Connecticut.

In Colorado, you are breaking the law if you drive a black car on Sundays.

It's illegal to drive a motor vehicle in Redlands, California, unless a man holding a lantern is walking in front of it.

In Glendale, Arizona, it's against the law to drive a car in reverse.

In Alabama, it's ok to drive a car the wrong way down a one-way street as long as you have a lantern attached to the front of it.

While driving along a country road at night in Pennsylvania, motorists must fire a rocket signal and wait 10 minutes for livestock to clear the road before continuing.

In California, you will be charged with a misdemeanor if you are caught shooting any kind of game from a moving vehicle other than a whale.

In Massachusetts, you will be issued a ticket if you are caught driving with a gorilla in the back of your car. I guess it's ok for it to ride shotgun.

In Whitehall, Montana, it's illegal to drive any vehicle with ice picks attached to the wheels.

If you drive on the sidewalk in Oregon, you must yield the right of way to pedestrians.

It is a misdemeanor to screech your tires while driving in Derby, Kansas.

It is illegal to tether a dog to the roof of your car in Alaska.

It is illegal to fish while driving across a bridge in Florida.

Although many of these laws are now obsolete and some are downright outrageous, keep in mind that at some point in time people actually engaged in behavior that made it necessary for these laws to have been passed. Scary thought isn't it?
