Auto Correct Leads to Manslaughter
According to the Daily Mail, Josef Witkowski was killed when the auto correct function on his friend's phone changed the word "mutter" into "nutter." Not long after Neil Brook sent the message to his pal, Witkowski proved just what a nutter he was, showing up at Brook's apartment with a knife. However, Brooks met him at the door with a knife of his own, cutting and stabbing Witkowski over 100 times. He has been charged with manslaughter for killing his former friend.
Texting Teen Plummets from Parking Garage
The Herald Sun reports that a Melbourne teen fell to his death while texting and walking in a parking garage. 19-year-old Ryan Robbins had been escorting two young women to their cars and was texting friends when he fell over a safety barrier on the seventh floor. The safety barriers in the parking garage are now under review by the Melbourne City Council.
Teen Commits Suicide after "Sexting" Incident
In 2008, 18-year-old high school student Jesse Logan committed suicide after an incident involving "sexting". The Ohio teen had sent nude pictures of herself to her boyfriend, who proceeded to send them to classmates when the couple broke up. Some classmates started harassing the girl after seeing the photos, calling her names and making Logan fear going to school. When she decided she couldn't take anymore, Jesse Logan committed suicide by hanging herself in her room, a tragic event that showed just how dangerous bullying in schools can be.
Man Murders Girlfriend over Text Message
Last year, Jonathan French murdered his girlfriend in an instance of "text rage." After seeing a text message from another man on Jennifer Stark's cell phone, he beat her unconscious before slitting her throat with a knife. French pleaded that the murder was a crime of passion, but was found guilty of first degree murder.
So while texting might seem harmless enough, stories like these prove that texting can be a dangerous and deadly action that goes beyond distracting drivers, and they also serve as dire warnings for avid message senders to always think before they text.

Post a CommentA cousin of mine's wife just had an uncle that got hit by a train while texting his wife. Apparently he took the tracks home and thought he was far enough away from the tracks as the train came through and clipped his head with the railing from the stairs to the conductors engine. I never met the man personally but this was another bizarre texting death. It's a shame.
