Black is Beautiful

African American Literature

WriterzBlock
Throw away the myth of being incompetent, being ugly, unattractive and inferior to those around you. If you fail to remember anything else in your life, remember this, black is beautiful. Dispose of those mentalities, which chain you to your socialization. Allow yourself the chance to veer out into the world and experience it.

Black is beautiful babe…
From shackles and chains and across the oceans…
Cotton picking, chicken George had a dream.
Dream to be free…

So he passed it on to his relatives,
And they passed it on to theirs.
Blood of the slaves,
With no other characteristic to compare.

We ate the rations of pig feet, dry cornmeal, chittlin's and feces.
Still dreaming… vowing to never show defeat.
Vowing to never give up and retreat…
Passing it along to our kids' kids'.
Always stand tall, never be weak.

All the way into the 20th century, that's what we bring.
Jack Johnson, Jesse Owens, X, Martin Luther King.
"Reach out and touch"
"Lift every voice and sing."
However you want to do it.

Good service on Sunday Morning by the pastor,
Thanksgiving holiday, God bless this food,
Lord Jesus, our real master.
Conqueror of all,
Who really set us free.
The proclamation took too long,
Guess who came up with the idea?

With opportunity to be great, at whichever one choose.
Do or die, take two shots to land one, win or lose.
Just know, no matter what history has labeled us.

The skin,
And the tone of voice is beautiful.

I love this poem!!!! I love the fact that you dug into the African American history!!! It is true that we should be 100% happy of who we are, because thats what makes us unique and different from the way of those who feel that they have power over us!!!! Keep up the good work
