Black Berry Peal Flip 8220: Taking Pictures and Text Messaging

A Non-Techie Review of 2 Simple Features on a Not-So-Simple Phone

Melissa B
When you hear the words Black Berry, you usually picture the sophisticated individual with busy hectic lifestyle tapping away on his/her Black Berry do it all device, right? But Black Berry has become so well known in the business world that the name itself has become totally branded for just about anyone. It's like people like me, who buy Nike shoes; they aren't running a marathon, they just but it because it's a name they trust and feel proud to wear.

Well, same here with the Black Berry. More and more people are buying Black Berry phones not because they need to utilize every function, but rather they just want a good phone with great features. I am going to admit, I have a Black Berry and I am a stay at home mom! Actually, I just bought the Black Berry Pearl Flip 8220 model. I have to tell you that I am in love with my Black Berry, well as much in love as someone can be with a phone at least. But I am no techie who can tell you all about the newest applications, speed or talk the techie talk that gets me feeling like you can't touch or operate it.

So if you appreciate a down to earth perspective and want to know a bit more about the Black Berry Pearl Flip 8220 than read on! Let me first start by telling you that I recently upgraded from a basic candy bar style Samsung Plum that was about two years old. For me, getting the Black Berry Pearl Flip 8220 was like moving from and Apartment to a owing a Mansion. Not only was it exciting to have my hands on a Black Berry, but I also had to get accustomed to owning such a sophisticated phone. Now that I finally know how to navigate my Black Berry, I am using it like a pro!

Text Messaging

I have unlimited text messaging for my phone. I love Text Messaging and text message friends and family even on my old basic Samsung phone. I had actually gotten used to the T9 style of typing, so when learning to text on the Black Berry Flip 8220, well let's just say it would have been so much faster to just call the person I was Text Messaging. It took me five minutes to send a simple text message and I wasn't used to the QWERTY style keys, which most have two letters per key if you are unfamiliar with the key layout. RIM Black Berry must know that not everybody easily adapts to change, so thankfully I found a game preloaded into my Black Berry Flip 8220 called Trooper Typing. I must admit this game truly helped me figure out the layout and start typing better. But I also found the more I typed, the better I got and now I type so fast, it's unbelievable. The Black Berry 8220 is also loaded with SureType which once you get used to it, helps you whip out text messages, e-mails and what not very fast, perhaps faster than having a phone with a full QWERTY keyboard like the Black Berry Curve.

Taking Pictures

Taking pictures with the black Berry Peal Flip 8220 has both it's pros and cons. I love the fact the Black Berry Pearl Flips has a built in 2.0 mega pixel camera and I love taking pictures with it. Even cooler is the fact that Black Berry has decided what we all knew all along, a good camera needs a flash! Yes, finally a phone that has the ability to take real quality pictures! It's rather easy to take pictures with this phone, you can even zoom in and out easily with the roll of the scroll ball. I have found that taking pictures with the Black Berry Peal Flip 8220 has it's flaws too. You really can't move or the picture will be completely blurred, good luck taking pictures of the kids with out saying "okay, now don't move" But, hey, I have a digital camera for all those minutes and I still find that my Black Berry Pearl Flip camera takes great on the go pictures when we are out. It's great to know I can upload them to the computer and actually get a decent print out, not so with my old 1.3 mega pixel phone!

The Black Berry Pearl Flip is loaded with perks, but Text Messaging and Camera are the ones I use multiple times a day and I find pretty important. Hopefully this basic, honest review has given you insight on the Black Berry Pearl Flip 8220.
