First appearing in a story published in Action Comics #252, Supergirl has been in comics since 1959 and has appeared on children's cartoon shows, film and television over the years. The Supergirl Barbie Doll is pictured in the outfit she is famous for: a bright blue mini-skirt and top emblazoned with the tell-tale "S" logo. The doll wears red boots, a crimson cape and articulated arms and hands.
Next up in the DC Comics Collection is Batgirl. Various forms of Batgirl have appeared alongside Batman in the comic books over the years, as well as on television shows and films. The Batgirl Barbie Doll wears a body-hugging black bat suit emblazoned with the bat logo and a flowing cape with gold lining. She wears elbow-length comic-book-yellow gloves and knee-length boots of the same color. Completing the ensemble is the classic black mask and bat ears covering beautiful auburn hair. Batgirl also has articulated arms and hands.
No DC Comics Collection would be complete without Wonder Woman. A part of DC Comics since its inception in 1944, Wonder Woman has been an iconic figure in comic books, television and film. The Wonder Woman Barbie Doll follows in the tradition, wearing her classic red and golden top and electric blue shorts adorned with white stars. Her outfit is complete with a red and blue satin cape, red boots and a "golden" lariat. The doll has articulated arms and hands.
Not as well known to those unfamiliar with DC Comics is the Black Canary. In the comic books, Black Canary was known for her skills in martial arts and her "Canary Cry"-- a high powered shriek that could shatter objects and take down villains. Dubbed "The Blonde Bombshell," Canary is the most "sexed up" of the collection. The blonde-haired doll is decked out in faux black leather, a jacket and faux leather boots. The actual outfit is little more than a bathing suit with a jacket on top. She wears gloves and black fishnet stockings. The doll's elbows and hands are articulated for posability.
Though these dolls can be given as gifts to children, they are also a good gift for Barbie doll collectors.
Black Canary, Bat Girl and Supergirl are available now in the Barbie online shop for $40, plus tax and shipping.
