Black comedian, Damon Wayans, fined for using the n-word

Sin Lucas
Damon Wayans became the first comedian and maybe the first black person in history to be fined for using the N-word.

According to TMZ.com, Wayans performed at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood during a showcase of African-American comedians called "Chocolate Sundaes and during his performance he used the N-word which is a big no no at the Laugh Factory ever since Michael Richards used the word during a racist rant at the club in November.

Since the Richards incident the Laugh Factory has implemented a ban on the word. Violating the ban will not only get you fined $20 for each time it's said but it will also get you banned from the club for 3 months.

The website states that Wayans opened up his act by saying, "Give yourselves a big round of applause for coming down and supporting 'N***** Night.'" After that line he went on the use the word repeatedly.

Fining as well as banning Wayans from the club will hopefully serve as a reminder that the use of this derogatory word is wrong no matter what color you are, but will it keep people from using it?

Earlier this week comedian Andy Dick came under fire for using the n-word. Read the story and his apology:
Using the n-word. Is it a new trend?

I think he had an entirely different thought going through his head.

I'm grateful for the publicity all these celebrities are recieving for using the "N" word. Even if it enlarges their audience - I'm all for it. Its putting the issue to the public for a vote - for a dialogue. I'm an eternal optimist. If all we accomplish is the defining, espousing and public endorsement of "respect" again - I would be delighted! Great string of articles Sindy. You sure have a knack for finding this stuff. It is impactful.

I think Wayans made an effective statement with his actions AND got some publicity too-everyone wins. Kudos to him for having the guts to do it.

No one's thought that he did it for publicity? lol The saying no news is good news is wrong. No news is forgotten. He might say it's to protest racism but it brought him into the news too. Bet his agents got tons of calls for new gigs after that!

I doubt the fine or ban hurt him... I he knew exactly what he was doing... trying to make a point. He feels he has a right to say it... so he did and was probably glad to pay the fine.

it's complicated. you don't want people to use certain words but when you start telling people they CAN'T use certain words...like i said it's complicated.
