Black & Decker PHV1800CB 18-Volt Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner Review

Jamie Cortez
When you need to clean your car interior from dirt and dust a portable vacuum cleaner is a great helper. The Black & Decker 18-Volt PHV1800CB Cordless Handheld Vacuum is one of those portable vacuums available in the market. But is it really just another handheld vacuum?

Pros

The suction power of Black & Decker PHV1800CB cordless vacuum is pretty good. Even though it's still incomparable to corded vacuum this handheld vacuum is strong enough to suck it pet hair, crumbs, dirt and dust from your car seat, mat, sofa, couch and of course the floor. Spot cleaning with this machine really gives satisfactory result.

To be useful the battery used for cordless vacuum must hold the charge long enough to do proper amount of cleaning. The battery for Black & Decker PHV1800CB fit this requirement. After a full charge the battery holds until you've completely clean your car interior

The pivoting nose of PHV1800CB is very useful too. It can help you clean weird-angled places. The nose can also be completely folded to save space when you want to put it in tight spaces like your car dashboard or the kitchen drawer. You should, however, put it back onto the charger whenever you're not using it. That way you can trickle-charge the unit so it will always be ready when you need to do some quick cleaning.

Cons

This Black & Decker PHV1800CB vacuum is a little heavy and bulky. The wall mounting rack is pretty useless since nobody would want this thing hanging on the wall; it's just weird seeing this vacuum hanging.

The other weak point is the noise. Since it has more power (18 volt) it makes higher-pitched noise than those 12 volt cordless vacuums. Next on the list is the build quality. The plastic seems kind of fragile. It also misses smaller attachments to clean very narrow areas.

Some improvements for the charging station would be nice too. For this model the charging station won't tell you whether the battery is fully charged or not.

Conclusion

For a cordless vacuum the Black & Decker PHV1800CB is amazingly good. Good suction, long lasting battery and useful attachments are clearly what consumers are looking for. All in all a good vacuum for spot cleaning in the house and more importantly for cleaning your car interior. Just be sure you don't pay more than $65 (with shipping and handling included) for this thing. Any more than that would be a total rip off.

This vacuum is a piece of garbage. Have used it for only 12 months to pick up debris and food particles from the carpet after my kids eat, and it is progressively getting worse (only works on high and shuts down quickly). The charging stand doesn't even work consistently anymore. For the price, it's a rip off.
