Black Eyed Peas Hit "I Gotta Feeling" Music Review

Tara Van Ness
"I Gotta Feeling" is the second single from the reunited Black Eyed Peas from their new album titled, "The E.N.D". It was mixed by Dylan "3-D" Dresdow. It was mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering and produced by David Guetta.

"I Gotta Feeling" is a dance, electropop song that is done in common time of 128 beats per minute, which is typical for many dance songs. The first impression of the song is that it is incredibly repetitive. Various members of The Black Eyed Peas all take their turn on the microphone singing, "I Gotta Feeling" over and over...and over again. The song talks about how they all adamantly agree that tonight is going to be a good night, and everyone is going to have a good time. We get the message, because they only sing it in various ways about 67 times. I was pretty disappointed in this song, because I have come to expect much more from The Black Eyed Peas.

However, it is apparent that the rest of the country feels differently, as "I Gotta Feeling" is holding strong at number one on Billboard's top 100. The beat and mix are great, don't get me wrong, but in terms of the quality we have come to expect from the Black Eyed peas, this song sorely misses the mark. However, "I Gotta Feeling" is a danceable, feel-good song that is perfect for blaring in the car on the way to the club, only to hear it playing in the club. You can dance to it there, too. However, if you are looking for a powerful message and interesting melodies as found in such singles as "Where Is The Love", you will be looking for a long time. In that time though, you will hear the words "tonight's gonna be a good night" about 54 times. Who are you trying to convince, Black Eyed Peas? To be fair, there are a few other lyrics during the middle of the song that are somewhat interesting, but don't hold interest enough to be especially memorable.

I can hear this song being played in the background in film and TV, a venue which thrives on repetitive, plainly-spoken songs that communicate a definite feeling. So, in that case, "I Gotta Feeling" will definitely see continued success after it slips on the charts. In fact, it has already been used by CBS to promote it's new fall line-up. It is obvious that CBS 'has a feeling' that 'tonight is going to be a good night' when you tune into their new fall programming.

I do love The Black Eyed Peas in general. I was sad when they broke up, happy when they reunited, right along with the rest of their fans. I will still probably purchase or download "The E.N.D", but I would only give this song a very average rating. Sorry, Fergie and fellas.
