The 31 year old hip hop singer, whose real name is Jaime Luis Gomez, was taken into custody Tuesday morning by police after a collision in Industry, Calif. about 30 miles east of Los Angeles, according to Lt. Mark Relyea of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Taboo was pulled over at the corner of Grand Avenue and Valley Boulevard at 11:30 p.m. after a report of a non-injury vehicle collision. The police arrived on the scene and arrested. Gomez was then taken to the City of Industry police station where the Black Eyed Peas singer was detained. Police then searched his vehicle and found marijuana and prescription medicine that did not have the required prescription. Taboo was then booked on the charges.
Taboo was released later that evening with a citation for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of a prescribed medication without a prescription, and for driving under the influence. All of the charges Taboo faces are misdemeanors and Jaime Luis Gomez was released after posting $5,000 bail.
The details of the accident that brought police to the scene isn't clear, but it appears no one was hurt.
Taboo joined the Black Eyed Peas in 1996. He joined fellow rappers ap.de.ap and will.i.am. Fergie joined the band later. The first two albums the hip hop group released, "Behind the Front" and "Bridging the Gap," were well received by critics, but weren't huge hits with the fans.
Fame came in 2003 with "Elephunk," an album that lit up the airwaves with songs like "Hey Mama," and "Let's Get it Started." The black Eyed Peas success continued with the 2005 release of "Monkey Business." That album produced hits such as "Don't Lie," "Don't Phunk With My Heart," and of course, "My Humps." The album sold about 10 million copies worldwide. The Black Eyed Peas have sold over 20 million albums worldwide.
Taboo was born July 14, 1975 in Los Angeles. He is of Mexican and Shoshone descent. He joined the group after the first two members decided they needed a third. The band was called Atban Clann at the time. Taboo is rumored to be working on a solo album titled Amor En La Havana.
No court date has been set for Taboo.
