Black Friday 2007 Can Retailers Still Come Up in the Black

lisamig
Once again it is Black Friday and retailers are hoping to kickoff what is expected to be another year of struggling to make the sales for the Holiday season profitable. Retailers of luxury items continue to do well while retailers that have items for the middle and lower income customer are fretting those sales between now and the day after Christmas will not be enough again this year.

Retailers have made changes to how they presented their sales this year; Walmart had secret items that could only be discovered online yesterday and in the stores this morning, if you did not have access to a computer yesterday. Some retailers opened their doors an hour earlier this year than last, while many at the outlet level opened at midnight. All hoping to draw in the extra crowd to help boost sales for what is their last crunch in sales before end of year.

Many retailers last year saw great turn out for the busiest shopping day of the year, Black Friday, but still did not have a great finish to the Holiday shopping season. They found that while they had a good start it was not enough to make up for the lost sales that took place throughout the Holiday season. Customers have to juggle their paychecks to handle the rising cost of everything in life and this holiday season is yet another part of the already overcrowded juggling act. Retailers will really have to go to extended lengths this year to pull it out in the end of the Holiday shopping season to make their bottom line look better.
