The buzz of anticipation can be heard in almost every conversation, and not just in Detroit-I'm sure other cities are having their fair share of anticipation for a day the stores open their doors to the hugest sale ever known-and commonly called "Black Friday".

Before I go into direct sales events, I wish to give a bit more information on the term "Black Friday". Black Friday is generally the day after Thanksgiving and is set aside as the day to start your Christmas shopping; and of course this is when you see commercials of every store in your area/town/community/city and/or state, and the sales they have. The origin of Black Friday comes from earlier times, when all accounting was done by hand, and red ink meant a loss and black ink represented a profit; Needless to say that during those times, merchants often called these losses as being 'in the red' (because of the low profits marked in red ink), and as the day after Thanksgiving proved profitable, their totals were marked in black...Thus, giving us "Black Friday". Great isn't it?

Well, in Detroit, there will be many stores 'in the black' after this year's Black Friday; I've seen so many commercials until I'm almost getting dizzy and over-anticipated for the day to arrive. If I were to judge the best sales by the number of times the commercial has been aired, I'd say Meijer's is having the hugest sale; not only is it a one-stop shopping spot in most areas, but their prices are already pretty reasonable. So, you are definitely going to get a deal while shopping there. But if I had to choose which commercial I liked best, it would have to be Target's commercial-it's such an eye catcher! You have these shoppers racing with shopping carts to get to the store earlier than most, thus, getting dibs on the best bargains. It really gets you ready for the event. And speaking of time, most of the stores will be opening their doors as earlier as 5 a.m. And I truly believe, and I know from experience that many people are setting their alarm clocks to be sure to arrive early! I remember a friend of mines in Nashville literally parked in the lot of a Wal-Mart the night before, just to be sure she was the first one there when the doors opened!

While I'm speaking on Wal-Mart, I want to say that just like Meijer and Target, Wal-Mart is also a one-stop shopping store. Of course they are going to have deals to make your head spin, for sure! But there is a website available that lists these stores and many more, along with the sales that will be going on for Black Friday. WXYZ.com for Detroit has an 'Early Look at Black Friday Sales', reported by JoAnne Purtan.

If you are a person who enjoys the mall scene, and wish to have a large variety of shopping stores to choose from, then going to the mall may be your choice. Metro Detroit has a number of malls; of course we have the geographical malls: Northland (off 8 Mile and Greenfield), Eastland(off 8 Mile and Vernier), Westland (off Wayne and Warren), and Southland (off I-75 and Eureka). There are a number of other malls in our area and surrounding areas as well, with a new addition: The Mall at Patridge Creek, to choose from and shop away!

Looking for electronics? Try Best Buy; Need the best deals on toys? Of course we all know how the children love Toys R Us! Whatever your shopping desires or pleasures...even 'gotta-have's are, I'm sure you're going to reach your goals-only if you set your alarm clock! Happy Shopping and Happy Holidays!
