Black Friday Safety Tips for Smart Shoppers

Layla Lair
Black Friday means bargains and discounts to many consumers. However, without safety precautions the promise of bargains could fall short. Before shoppers head for doorbuster lines, there are safety tips for shopping in crowds and handling money to consider. Safety tips for Black Friday could mean shoppers come home with the bargains anticipated versus coming home empty handed.

Black Friday Safety Tips for Smart Shoppers

The old saying our parents taught about safety in numbers still holds true. Shopping with a friend is one of the easiest tips for safety on Black Friday.

When jumping into Black Friday lines, be wary if mall or store security has not yet arrived. Many times being at the front of a doorbuster line means arriving in the middle of the night. Shoppers should reconsider before jumping into a line at four in the morning if security has not made an appearance. Dishonest people know that people in these lines usually have cash and see them like sitting ducks, all lined up in a row.

Other safety tips for Black Friday shopping include, do not carry all money in one location. Additionally, keep money close to the body. Lines are crowded and many times stores are standing room only. Ladies should think twice about carrying purses into crowds where someone bumping is an unavoidable event. Instead, opt to carry money closer to the body, such as a zipper pocket on the inside of a coat. If giving up a purse is just out of the question, choose one with a long strap that can be worn over the head and covered with a jacket for safety.

When loading packages for Black Friday, do not load packages and reenter the store without moving your vehicle. As much as it hurts to give up that coveted parking space, go ahead and move to another section of the mall for safety. Better to walk the parking lot than have a dishonest person see you leave your items.

In Black Friday lines, always pay close attention to the mood of the crowd and surroundings. In recent years, the search for bargains has driven some shoppers to act unbecoming and think of safety later. Many stores now provide security inside and out to ensure Black Friday shoppers are safe and follow decency guidelines. If you feel the crowd is out of hand, better to be safe and walk away.
