Denver day after Thanksgiving or "Black Friday" shopping doesn't start at the crack of dawn this year, or even before the crack of dawn. It starts at one minute after midnight. Actually, for Wal-Mart shoppers it begins Thanksgiving Day but for shoppers who want to visit the variety of stores at the Castle Rock, Loveland and Silverthorne, outlet malls, as soon as it is officially November 23rd the rush is on. Visit their web sites (listed below) for further information on the special events taking place starting as the clock strikes twelve.

An article in the Denver Post noted that the midnight opening idea was resulting in full parking lots in the middle of the night in California. It also turns shopping into an endurance sport, as other stores begin opening at 4, 5 and 6am, and malls open at 8am and onward. A Black Friday shopper could, in theory, continue shopping for a full twenty-four hours!

Other early openings include JC Penney, which opens at 4 am, and Old Navy, which opens at 5 am and is offering a free preloaded MP3 player with $20 minimum purchase, according to television ads. Sears is also opening at 5 am, and will have a special sale from then until 12pm. Target is open at 6am, and has a special two-day sale.

The Outlets at Castle Rock "Moonlight Madness" will include door prizes, giveaways including a Las Vegas vacation, a live remote by a local radio station, and an overall festive atmosphere.

The popular Park Meadows Mall lists a Black Friday opening of 6am, while the Cherry Creek Mall opens at 8am. Flatiron Crossing in Broomfield will open at 8am also. Park Meadows has a shuttle from the RTD Light Rail on the weekend, and the Zip shuttle at Flatiron Crossing provides access to many other stores including Wal-Mart, and has a stop connecting with the B and BX express RTD buses from Boulder and Denver.

Stores such as Wal-Mart have indicated that they will have special in-store deals, and Target's two-day sale has numerous specials as well. In addition to store websites, some information can be found at sites such as www.salescircular.com, which combine the sale prices from flyers distributed in a geographic area.

Citysearch has a list of Black Friday sales, and thedenverchannel.com notes that Gottadeal has gathered Black Friday "intelligence" for power shoppers into one site. Armed with all this information and a strong cup of coffee, head out to enjoy the Black Friday madness, starting at midnight!

Correction - the outlet malls have "doorbusters" not prizes. Still a good thing, but my apologies. Enjoy!
