Black Hair: 2 Year Old Trend Continues on for a 3rd Year for 2011

Melanie Dee
Frankly, I am sick of it. I was part of the trend, the black hair, tan skin, and thinking I looked like a solid star. However after lightening my hair, and adding highlights, then looking back at old photographs I realized I looked fake, too fake, like Barbie in reverse, and being so turned off by it, I figured 2011 would be the season for those who dyed their hair black to lighten up a bit, especially with summer months approaching.

Black hair however is all the rage, once again. It has not gone anywhere, and everywhere you look, you too can spot the trends ever growing popularity.

Personally I think it looks awkward and unnatural, but the trend continues, and if you know how to play yup your outfit, and your makeup right, the trend may look good on you too. For starters you need to be tan, and if you cannot keep up on that tan you will look too Gothic and dark overall, which could spoil the hair color, and your skin tone. That is of course, if you like the Goth look.

Bold colors are in, and bold liner is also in, and will likely always be in. Neutrals are losing popularity quickly, and colors that pop have overrun every makeup counter. Black hair with these bold bright colors look fantastic though, especially a deep lip color of red, or pink.

I was hoping to see drastic changes this year for 2011, but so far the only things that have taken on drastic changes have been colors, eyes and lips.

If you are looking to dye your hair black for this years trend, truly think about it, because it took me months to lighten the hair as once it was black, it was very difficult to tone it out into a lighter brown without having clown red hair, so truly think about it before going out and doing it. Black is the easiest hair color to maintain, but the absolute hardest hair color to change once you have it.

If you think it is a color you will want to keep for a long time, go for it, but if you are having doubts that you will want to go back to your lighter shade, maybe you should skip on it, because like I said, once you go black, it is hard to go back. This routine of going back includes a lot of damage to the hair, and you will likely need to color it was more than once. Expensive treatments for the hair will also be necessary if you try to rid yourself of black hair and lighten up.

So the question is... 'to follow the trend, or not to follow the trend'?

I agree with you—it doesn't look natural at all. No such thing as black hair—only super dark brown! But some people know how to work it well :)
