If you're an African American with permed or straightened hair, you probably know all about the wrap. But for those of you who don't know, the wrap is the popular hairstyle of today. It's simple. It's fun, and it promotes hair growth because you don't have to sleep in rollers to wake up to a nice hairdo in the morning. But, there's only one problem with this hairstyle: It's hard to get it perfect every time. When a wrap is perfect, you just get out of the bed, take your headscarf off, do a little combing and voila, you have a straight, shiny, slightly curved, and flowing hairstyle.

However, when a wrap hairstyle is not perfect, you wake up, take your scarf off and come out with something that may be dry and is, more often than not, bent instead of curved. Hairs may stick out in places you don't want them to. The best way to describe this type of imperfect hairstyle is - a mess. But there's no need to worry. There's a secret to getting the perfect wrap every time. Here's what it is.

Before you to bed a night, apply a few dabs of moisturizer to the ends of you hair and comb them through. Applying moisturizer to your ends gives the hair moisture where it needs it most. You can try using a light oil every night. Once you've combed the moisturizer through, begin to wrap your hair.

To get the wrap really straight, a lot of people use a brush as they wrap. You can try this if you like. However, that might not be the best thing to do for every type of hair. Many experts believe brushing the hair eventually wears out the hair cuticle.

Once you have the hair wrapped using either a brush and/or comb, put a silk scarf over the hair and tie it so that that it's pretty tight but not too tight.

Lastly, you have to do the most important part for getting this type of hairstyle perfect. Grab some old pantyhose, put them on top of the scarf and tie them up tightly, but not too tightly. The pantyhose will keep the silk scarf from slipping off at night and work to keep the hair in place so that strands won't bend in the middle.

The use of the stocking cap doesn't stop at the pillow. Before you put on the your shower cap, remember to keep the stocking cap and silk scarf on. It will keep the shower steam from making your wrap hairstyle frizzy.

After you've gotten out of the shower, you can put a wide-tooth comb through your hair and voila, you've got the perfect wrap hairstyle.
