I headed to the event about 30 minutes prior to the performance with a group of friends and upon arrival, there was already a rather long time to get in. As I entered the room, I realized that I was not the only person who was interested in the event. The large room was packed full of people eager to see the dance performance to come. Soon, the music started and the dance performance began, there were many dances that were performed and each one differed from the last. The talent and precision of each dancer truly impressed me and, quite obviously, the rest of the audience. When the dance performance concluded, the room erupted in applause. It was clear to see that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the night of dancing. The dance performance was incredible and well choreographed and I was definitely glad that I made the time to attend.
Although, I chose to attend the dance performance for Black History Month, the University of Texas at San Antonio is offering many events throughout the month. If you like poetry, movies, food, or dance, the college has an event perfect for you! The college hosts events such as a movie night on February 14 featuring the movie, Why Did I Get Married? On Saturday, February 23, the University of Texas at San Antonio will be hosting the 4th Annual Black Heritage Ball. This formal event begins at 6 pm and will be in the Denman Room (the same room as the dance performance).
These are only a few of the events that will be occurring this month, so if you live in the San Antonio area, set some time aside to have a great evening of entertainment. There are almost 20 events going on during Black History Month this year at UTSA. Some of the events require the purchase of a ticket, but many of the events are free. Every year, the University of Texas at San Antonio hosts multiple events throughout the entire month, so even if you don't get a chance to attend any of the events this year, try to make time to attend at least one event next year.
You don't have to be a student to attend these events; so don't be discouraged if you aren't a college student. People of all ages come to these events and everyone is pretty friendly. So, in addition to having a wonderful evening of entertainment, you can meet new, sociable people. Attending a Black History Month event at UTSA is a great opportunity to celebrate the progress this great country has made toward acceptance and peace.
