Black History Month: Famous Black Men

Black history month explores into the depths of African American history. Famous black men were not always given the credit they deserved. Until now that is.

Famous Black Men

Barack Obama is the first African American to be elected into presidency. He certainly is a famous man in our land of freedom. He grew up in Hawaii and used alcohol and drugs as a teenager to push away questions of who he was.

Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream to change the civil rights. He received the Nobel Peace Prize for his works, which made him the youngest man to receive it. Martin Luther King was assassinated in 1968.

Fredrick Douglass was more than a runaway slave. He wrote an autobiography on his life. Fredrick even founded the North Star newspaper which he helped edit. This man was a spokesman for world peace and so much more. He gave hope to the slaves who were still captive before they were legally freed.

Jesse Owens was an athlete who made it to the Olympic games in 1936. He was famous for his long jumps. Jesse had set many world records for his jumps and running. In his youth he was sick and fragile child. He was a great athlete during his lifetime.

Carter G. Woodson is the father of Black history month. His parents were slaves. Carter accomplished many things for the recognition for the African Americans. He has given our nation the opportunity to recognize many black men and women who have contributed to our nation.

Jesse Jackson is a civil rights activist. He organized the Rainbow Coalition. Jesse even formed the National Youth Movement. He had an affair during his marriage, which ended with a child being born.

These six men have had a major impact on our nation's history. They have contributed so much to our nation's greatness. There are so much to learn from them. Their contributions to our nation has greatly improved the world. Through these men we are able to appreciate the finer things in life. We begin to realize that no dream is impossible as long as we have faith in ourselves.

Black history month gives us the opportunity to know these great men. We as a nation should give recognition to these men at any time of the year and not just in February. This month lets give thanks to these men.
